I studied nursing mainly because I wanted to help other people out. Ever since I was a little kid, I&ve liked to help others out whether by comforting them or by helping them make new friends. I&ve got a great deal of comfort from seeing other people happy. I&ve always tried to make others laugh and be able to enjoy themselves. So I knew I could help the world by becoming a nurse.
Becoming a nurse wasn&t an easy decision thought. I knew it would cost me a good amount of time and effort because medicine is not an easy field to work in. I had to decide if becoming a nurse was worth the time and effort that I had to put into school. I knew that in the end, it would all be worth it.
I encourage others to try to become a nurse too. It is a field both men and women can work in even though most people think it is a woman& job. A man can do the job just as well as a woman can. It is a very interesting job and you will never see something twice. Each patient brings different problems that you have to try to help with.
It requires you to have much patience and to be able to work long, flexible hours. You can be called in at any time if there is an emergency. I still think it is a great career though and you are paid a significant amount of money.
According to American news, the average salary for a nurse in 2013 was $67,930 a year. That is a good amount of money that any one can live off. The average salary in American is $50,502 a year so by becoming a nurse, you&ll be paid about $17,000 more a year than the average American. Also, with more years of experience, your pay will go up and you can be promoted(晋升) to a registered nurse or the head nurse.
Becoming a nurse has its advantages and disadvantages, but studying to become a nurse was one of the best decisions of my life. I suggest that you do the same if you&re unsure of what career to choose.

&& A. nursing is becoming more popular due to high salaries

Starlings(欧椋鸟) do not have the most beautiful singing voices in the world but they are excellent copycats&&or copybirds! They copy what they hear most often. And they can bark like dogs, baa like sheep, and cry like kids.
Noisy and gregarious, starlings spend a lot of the year in groups. At first, young starlings can make simple sounds to talk to other starlings. But soon, they add copycat sounds to their songs. A whole group of starlings is likely to hear and copy the same sounds. Yet scientists have never found two males that sing exactly the same song. Each male uses copycat sounds to make his song creative.
Every spring, a male starling sings to find a mate(配偶). The longer and more difficult his song, the more likely he is to find a female. No one knows why. Maybe females know that the best singers keep other birds away, which eat starling eggs. Or maybe females know that the best singers find the tastiest bugs for their baby starlings.
Besides singing to find a mate, the male protects his nest with all the sounds he&s learned. He stands straight and tall. His song tells other starlings, &This is my nest. Go away!&& Each season, he adds more sounds, making himself more attractive to females and more fearsome to his competition.
Starlings steals not only sounds but other birds& nests, too! They use holes or openings that are already there as places to build their nests. They are just as happy to take over the big tree holes that other birds build. And people often find that the birdhouse they built for bluebirds is now home to starlings.
If you find a springtime nest, watch and listen. You might see nest-building, or a mother starling warming her eggs, or baby starlings eating. And if you hear a dog barking or a kid crying, look up into a tree. It may be a starling adding another sound to its song.
62. What do we know about starling?
&& A. They are the best singing birds.&&& &&&&&& B. They are good at copying voices
&& C. They can copy the sound of any bird.
&& D. They learn the same sounds in a group.

&& A. usually ask other birds or help
&& B. take over others& nests as their own
&& C. often fight against others for tree holes

66. The passage is written to ____________.
&& A. tell us about different kinds of starlings
&& B. call on more research on starlings
&& C. ask people to protect starlings
&& D. introduce a kind bird
No one knows for sure when advertising first started. It is possible that it grew out of the discovery that some people did certain kinds of work better than others did them. That led to the concept of specialization, which means that people would specialize, or focus on doing one specific job.
Let&s take a man we&ll call Mr. Fielder for example. He did everything connected with farming. He planted seeds, tended the fields, and harvested and sold his crops. At the same time, he did many other jobs on the farm. However, he didn&t make the bricks for his house, cut his trees into boards, make the plows, or any of other hundreds of things a farm needs. Instead, he got them from people who specialized in doing each of those things.
Suppose there was another man we shall call Mr. Plowright. Using what he knew about farming and working with iron, Mr. Plowright invented a plow that made farming easier. Mr. Plowright did not really like farming himself and wanted to specialize in making really good plows. Perhaps, he thought, other farmers will trade what they grow for one of my plows.
How did Mr. Plowright let people know what he was doing? Why, he advertised, of course. First he opened a shop and then he put up a sign outside the shop to attract customers. That sign may have been no more than a plow carved into a piece of wood and a simple arrow pointing to the shop door. It was probably all the information people needed to find Mr. Plowright and his really good plows.
Many historians believe that the first outdoor signs were used about five thousand years ago. Even before most people could read, they understood such signs. Shopkeepers would carve into stone, clay, or wood symbols for the products they had for sale.
A medium, in advertising talk, is the way you communicate your message. You might say that the first medium used in advertising was signs with symbols. The second medium was audio, or sound, although that term is not used exactly in the way we use it today. Originally, just the human voice and maybe some kind of simple instrument, such as a bell, were used to get people&s attention.
A crier, in the historical sense, is not someone who weeps easily. It is someone, probably a man, with a voice loud enough to be heard over the other noises of a city. In ancient Egypt, shopkeepers might hire such a person to spread the news about their products. Often this earliest form of advertising involved a newly arrived ship loaded with goods. Perhaps the crier described the goods, explained where they came from, and praised their quality. His job was, in other words, not too different from a TV or radio commercial in today&s world.
&&&&&& 67. What probably led to the start of advertisement?
&A.&&&&&& The specialization of labor.&&&&& &&&&&& B. The development of farming techniques.
&&& &C. The appearance of new jobs.&&&& &D. The discovery of iron.
&&&&&& 68. The writer makes up the two stories of Mr. Fielder and Mr. Plowright in order to

&& &&A.&&&&&& expose problems in advertising &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& B. predict the future of advertising&&&&&&
& C. provide suggestions for advertising&&&&& & && D. explain the origin of advertising&&&&&&

Studying Abroad
Nowadays, studying abroad gains popularity in China. Many rich parents would rather send their children abroad to receive education than let them be educated in China.
As every coin has two sides, studying abroad is not an exception. There are advantages for people to attend school abroad. In the first place, he can use the foreign language in his daily life so that his ability in the second language may be greatly improved, as it is obvious that there is no better chance to improve second-language than living in the country where it is spoken. While studying in a foreign country, he will most likely meet many others from overseas and it is possible to make friends from all over the world. This is not only exciting on the social level, but could lead to important overseas contacts in his career as well. He can get familiar with the latest knowledge in science and make use of the first-rate facilities (设备) available. In this way, there is every chance that he is able to widen his horizon (眼界) and broaden his mind.
&&&& Of course, attending schools abroad may bring about a series of problems. The most serious problem is language barrier (障碍).
