矛盾之处在于,that 只用来陈述事实,既然是asked,宾语从句就不可能是一个已知的事实,而应该是个未知的问题,所以句中的that 是赘词,应该删去. 2、宾语从句有带有状语从句的复合句构成.如：
* Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate more on our clothes than our studies.
本句中的that 和if 不属于同一个语法范畴.把这个句子重新整理如下就会一目了然：
——Our teachers believe that we would concentrate more on our clothes than our studies if we did that. （我们的老师们相信这样一个事实,这个事实就是：如果我们这样做的话,那么我们就会把更多的精力放在衣装上而不是学习.）
可见that引导的是宾语从句,而if 引导的则是宾语从句中条件状语从句,二者互不矛盾.
