But she knew nobody when she arrived, and she was not able to make friends there. People who worked there liked her very much, but she kept apart from other old people and spent most of her time in her room. After a time she was hardly ever seen at meetings and social evenings.
Although she was in poor health and had to be treated for a weak heart, she did not compain "After all," she said, "lots of people are worse off than I am."

Bill Javis took over our village’s news-agency at a time of life when most of us only wanted to relax.
