The continuous development of the library's mobile Web sites has mostly been informed by feedback from library staff rather than from student users. As mobile devices and tablets become more prevalent among college students, it is crucial to gain a better understanding of students’ mobile and tablet usage patterns so that more decisions are data-driven and based on user expectations. This article details the findings from a study assessing the usability of the library's Web site for tablets and mobile devices, which includes survey feedback and three rounds of usability testing.Authors:, Library QuarterlyPrison libraries have traditionally fulfilled many purposes for their incarcerated patrons, and these libraries often carry a diverse collection to serve varied patron needs. However, during the trial of Steven Hayes for the Petit family murders, the prosecution questioned the collection development policies of the institutions where Hayes had previously been incarcerated, requesting the reading lists in efforts to prove that his salacious choices in literature fueled his crimes. This request by prosecution brought two major issues into question, including (1) the collection development policies of US prison libraries and (2) the question of patron privacy in prison libraries. This article investigates current prison library policies on collection development and confidentiality of patron borrowing records through an exploratory survey of seventeen librarians currently working in correctional institutions throughout the United States. Their responses detail collection development policies in the prison library and present the ambiguity for handling the confidentiality of patron borrowing records.Library ReviewThis case study details a specific example of the impact digital storytelling can have on a community, both to foster community building and also to encourage documentation of local history. The library field has been heavily impacted by budget cuts and the stagnated economy. How can new librarians navigate the limited opportunities and still differentiate themselves from the hundreds of applications many HR departments are receiving for one position? Within this presentation, the co-presenters will talk about their “campaigns” to find full-time professional librarian positions in two different types of institutions and how they augmented their resumes with professional development activities such as association and committee involvement, publications and speaking engagements to differentiate themselves from other applicants.
