菩提子:乃西藏语 bo-di-ci 之果，而非指之果实，产于雪山附近。菩提根不是树根，而是一种叫做的树籽。菩提子和菩提根为佛家圣物，可以驱邪消灾、避祸增慧，并带给人平安、吉祥、富贵和健康。菩 提，是梵语 bodhi 音译，是觉悟、智慧、知识、道路的意思，广义讲是断绝世间烦恼而成就涅盘的智慧。因佛祖释迦牟尼在菩提树下证道，菩提即为觉悟，成就之意。据佛经记 载，用菩提子念佛，可获无量倍功德，因此，菩提子成为最广泛使用的法器之一无论显密都是如此。显宗用多一些，密宗有多一些。佛 珠的粒数各有其义：108粒，是包括了十法界的各108个数；108粒，是表示单纯的108种烦恼，或108尊佛的功德，或108种无量三昧等等；54粒 的，是表示修身的境界；42粒的，表示住、行、向、地等菩萨乘之阶位；27粒的，表示声闻之27圣贤；21粒的，是佛教中代表本有的十地与修身之十地及佛 果；14粒的，表示仁王经所说十四忍（三贤、十圣加正觉）。
