The China IPR SME Helpdesk and the EU SME Centre are inviting you to an afternoon seminar about how SMEs can use contracts to effectively protect their business in China. During the seminar you will learn:
How to avoid common contractual errors which lead to loss of technology, know-how and competetiveness
Practical and useful tips on how to protect your business
How to write strong contracts which can protect your products and your company while doing business in China
You will receive practical advice from our China experts and have the opportunity to attend a one-on-one consulatation session to discuss your individual questions. Afternoon high-tea will be served during the seminar.

If you would like to receive confidential one-on-one advice about your business in China, sign up for a free, 20-minute consultation with the experts of the China IPR SME Helpdesk or the EU SME Centre. To ensure you have a chance to meet with the experts, please book your session in advance by indicating your interest when you register. Please specify the nature of your question and the expert you wish to book a session with. The One-on-One consultations are open to European SMEs on a first-come, first-served basis. Any information you provide to the EU SME Centre and the China IPR SME Helpdesk with be treated as confidential.
Speaker Biographies
Ludmila Hyklova, Legal Expert, EU SME Centre
Ludmila has been involved in legal consulting on international investment and cooperation for more than 15 years. She is now in charge of providing legal advice on all aspects of economic cooperation between Europe and China to SMEs looking to establish themselves in the Chinese market.
After working as a legal counselor for a number of multinational corporations, international organisations and projects in Europe, Ludmila spent the last five years in China working for a large EU financial group, where she managed the legal and compliance department during its business start-up. This included the development of a legal model for business and its compliance with Chinese law, as well as the incorporation of a number of foreign invested companies for the group. In the process of the day-to-day management of legal affairs for variety of companies, she gained broad knowledge and rich experience especially in company law, labour law, foreign exchange law, contract law and tax law.
Martin Seybold, Lawyer, Seybold Associates
Martin is head of his own consultancy firm in Beijing. He has over 10 years of experience advising European SMEs and scientific institutions on China IP issues. His specialities are enforcement of IP rights and hands-on IP strategies for foreign enterprises, as well as licensing and IP registrations in China.
Martin is a German qualified lawyer, holding a doctor's degree in constitutional law and a LL.M. degree in international and European economic law. He has in-depth experience on different IP approaches between China and Europe, and resulting conflicts. He is fluent in written and spoken Chinese. Examples of his daily business are: IP enforcement through Chinese authories, coordination of IP litigations, representation in arbitration and mediation, drafting of IP related contracts and management of IP portfolios in China.
Registration and cancellation
China IPR SME Helpdesk events are only open to European Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and SME intermediary organisations such as embassies and consulates, chambers of commerce and trade associations. This event is closed to law firms and business consultants. If you meet the criteria and would like to attend please register by emailing with the name and date of the event in the subject line and your company information. You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Because seating is limited, in the case of unexpected cancellation please inform the Helpdesk as soon as possible.
