I don't know. 
 I don't think there is much of a difference, but there are some 16-digit codes that I want and my Gameshark only lets me put in 12. I have the same question& as you. 
 A 16 - digit code is a gameshark code. But a 12 digit code is for a codebreaker. you can find gameshark codes
and Codebreaker codes .

But when you start reading some of the tex&t inside the game you realize that this fun little game is actually kind of disturbing.It must be absolutely freezing in the world of Pokemon, the only reason we can think of why people would be willing to put monkey droppings in their clothes just to keep warm.Apparently because Darumaka droppings are hot, it became a common practice among those who can't handle the cold.Legendary Pokemon are or are almost like gods in the world of Pokemon.
They have what seems like unparalleled control over the world and the people that live in it.
And what sucks even more is that the fate of everyone lives fall on the wings of the legendary Pokemon Yveltal.
According to the Pokedex when Yveltal reaches the end of its life, it absorbs the life energy of every living creature before becoming a cocoon.You'd be hard pressed to find any Pokemon cuter than Spoink, it's a spunky and energetic little piglet that bounces on its tail.
That's what makes its secret all the more tragic.
Spoink Doesn't bounce energetically on it's tail because it wants to, it does it because it has to.
If Spoink were to ever stop bouncing it would stop breathing and cease living.Although known to be still during the day, Cacturne are anything but during the night.
In Pokemon Sapphire it is explained in the Pokedex the whenever wanders travel aimlessly through the desert at night, a group of Cacturne will follow that person, biding their time until the weary traveler can't move anymore.

Just imagine the pain the poor souls who live by one have to go through.Every Grimer is like a little environmental biohazard, it's sludge is so toxic that the ground it walks on dies, never to support life again.
What's worse is that when it evolves into Muk it's toxicity increases being able to pollute a lake with a single drop of its slime.Imagine passing away and as you make your way to the great beyond you're caught, trapped in a ball, forced by the person who imprisoned you to fight with Pokemon non-stop.
That is unfortunately Yamask's fate.Yamask is not a ghost type Pokemon it's an actual ghost of a human who died.
And if you didn't already feel bad enough for this Pokemon, it also carries a mask that used to be it's face when it was alive.Have you ever wondered what the first person who drank milk was thinking?

In fact, throughout it's life it's brain cells continually multiply allowing it to remember everything, but that ability sadly comes at a hefty price.If you think about it Alakazam has a grisly fate as its skull only has so much room and if it's brain is constantly growing, you can figure out the rest.With glowing red eyes and shadow like hands Cofagrigus is a Pokemon that looks just as evil as it truly is.

This funny looking Pokemon referred to as the &Signpost for Wandering Spirits& prefers to spend it's days kidnapping kids.
In the Japanese version of the game it explains that Drifloon is actually carrying kids to the world of the dead.A Pokemon created out of pure congealed malice is the very definition of disturbing and that is exactly what Banette is.
Banette is a discarded doll who's hatred for the person who threw it away grew to such high levels that it gave it life as a Pokemon.
