呵呵，请看：
1.The rain started at eight a.m. and did not stop until eight p.m.
意为：雨早上八点开始下，晚上八点才停。
2.The rain started at eight a.m. and did not stop before eight p.m.
意为：雨从早上八点一直下到晚上八点。
not...until...着重的是结果（雨终于停了）；在第一句中，eight p.m.（晚上八点）是强调的重点，重读eight；
not...before...着重的是过程（雨下了一整天），did not stop（一直下）是强调的重点，重读not。
will not return home until it gets hungry.
狗不饿不回家。
2.not ...before..
eg. The coffee shop does not open before 0800am.
这咖啡店早上八点后才开门營业。

1、意义上有所区别
not until意思是直到什么时候才会去做某事，否则不去做。
until一直到某个时候一直做某事。
2、所属句中的动词属性有区加
根据1不难理解，not until 所修饰的动词不见得是连续性的，而until 修饰的动则须是连续性的。
3、句法功能上有区别
until一般不放在句首，后面跟时间词或表示时间条件的状语或从句连用 。
not until:可放句首，但主句要用倒装。
Not until 1986 was it that table tennis was accepted as a regular
part of the Olympic Games.
另外，谈一下till 和until
till和until都可以用作连词和介词，用于肯定句和否定句。用于肯定句时，只与持续性动词连用，有一个not...until的形式是固定的表示"到...为止"。用于否定句时，通常与瞬间动词连用，也可与持续性动词连用，表示"直到...才"的意思。这两个词一般情况下可以相互换用。例如：
We waited for him until/till six o'clock. 我们等他到一直等到六点钟。
The pupils will not begin the meeting till/until their class
supervisor comes. 学生们等到班主任一到就开始开会。
They didn't talk until/till the interpreter came.
直到译员到，他们才交谈。
He did not go to bed until/till he had made sure that nothing was
wrong with the pipes. 他检查水管，确准它们没有毛病，才去睡觉。
当until用于句首时，一般不能用till代替。在以not开始的从句或短语里，till一般也不可代替until，而且这种句式要用倒装语序。例如：
Until the last minute of the match we kept playing.
直到比赛的最后一分钟，我们仍然坚持奋战。
Not until he had finished his work did he go home.
他直到把工作做完，才回家去。
肯定形式表示的意思是"做某事直至某时"，动词必须是延续性的。
否定形式表达的意思是"直至某时才做某事"。动词为延续性或非延续性都可以。
I slept until midnight. 我一直睡到半夜时醒了。
Wait till I call you. 等着我叫你。
（在肯定句中可用before代替 Let”s get in the wheat before the sun sets.）
She didn”t arrive until 6 o”clock.
她直到6点才到。
Don”t get off the bus until it has stopped.
公共汽车停稳后再下车。
I didn”t manage to do it until you had explained how.
直到你教我后，我才会做。
否定句可用另外两种句式表示。
(1)Not until …在句首，主句用倒装。
Not until the early years of the 19th century did man know what
直到19 世纪初，人类才知道热能是什么。
Not until I began to work did I realize how much time I had
直到我开始工作，我才认识到了我已蹉跎了几多岁月。
(2) It is not until… that…这是一个强调结构。如本题。
Till的用法基本相同，但
1)Until可用于句首，而till通常不用于句首。
Until you told me, I had heard nothing of what happened.
直到你告诉我以前，出了什么事我一点也不知道。
2)Until when 疑问句中，until要放在句首。
---Until when are you staying? 你呆到什么时候？
--- Until next Monday. 呆到下周一。
