Kitty Scratching over his food like the litter box??
Hi I have a precious, naughty rambunctious kitty.. i got him in October when he was about 5 months old... he spent over a month in a cage at the humane society...he is really bonded to me, he follows me all around the house all day and comes when I call him and sleeps on our bed... he has some &strange& behaviors that I was wondering if anyone knew anything about... he paws at his food when he is done eathing it like he is trying to cover it just as if he would do in the litter box when he is done doing his business in it... and..&&when he is being petted and he is purring and seems very happy and contented, he sometimes just suddenly bites our hands... seems like he does it out of nowhere, he also sometimes bites hands if someone pets him and has their hand or arm in front of his face... one of my friends hit him when he did that to her and I just took him from her... none of us would EVER hit him and that is the only time he has been slapped since Ive had him... I dont know what kinda life or home if any he had before joining our family... if anyone knows why he is doing this stuff or if there is anything that I could do to help him to stop biting can you let me know?? also, do you think the food thing is cuz he may be &hiding& his food like outside cats may have to do??? thanks in advance for any info...

My cats do that with the food. My older started doing it when I changed his diet. He now eats a raw diet.&&I’ve noticed my cats do this when they’re satisfied and full. When they get from the foods what they need, they just “save it for later by covering it” I started getting a little upset because I didn’t unde but then some friends helped me realize that this is completely normal and they just hide the food from other animals and also they’re saving it for later. Remember, they cover their feces as a safety measure. It isn’t so much that they’re clean but it is more of survival, so that no other animal ever knows they’ve been there. It’s instinct.
As for the mild biting, I’d say your cat just gets excited, too excited and contempt that he just has to bite. It could also be that he is telling you there are certain areas where you are allowed to touch and other areas are a no-no. Perhaps it is an invitation to play. I bet if you start playing with him the minute he bites you he’ll follow the lead. I do not suggest that you do that since it encourages them to bite further. But you can be sure he doesn’t mean any harm.

Sounds just like my rotten lil girl, Freckles. I got her at 2 months and did everything &right&. No play fighting when she was a kitten, no yelling or spankings. She was simply a biter. She still does not like to be pet unless she is calm and sleepy and she comes to you. You absolutely can't just come up on her and try and pet because if your hand or arm goes in front of her face, she acts like she is under attack. We found out that at 7 months old she just wanted to hunt. She now is a phenomenal hunter. Acts like a cheetah. Her vet told me she just has a very strong hunting instinct and that she just does not have a docile personality (like lap cats). It wasn't anything we did or did not do....she's just a wild child. Also, she does cover her food every now and again and it's because she is hiding it from other animals. She does it with her prey as well (mice, birds, rabbits). It's funny when she is inside and tries to cover her food bowl. If I had to guess, I'd bet your little guy has the same strong hunting instinct. I think cats like that are just naturally a bit more aggressive (hence the biting and protective instinct). On the other hand, mine can be the sweetest cat I've ever seen....but only when SHE wants to be. Good luck with your lil man.
