The sun shone in through the dining room window, lighting up the hardwood floor. We had been talking there for nearly two hours. The phone of the“Nightline”rang yet again and Morrie asked his helper.Connie,to get it .She had been taking down the callers’names in Morrie’s small black appointment book .It was clear 1 was not the only one interested in visiting my old professor—the“Nightline”appearance had made him something of a big figure—but I was impressed with.perhaps even a bit envious of,all the friends that Morrie seemed to have“You know.Mitch, now that I'm dying,I've become much more interesting to people.I’m on the last great journey here——and people want me to tell them what to pack.” The phone rang again.“Morrie, can you talk?”Connie asked .“I’m visiting with my old friend now,”he announced.“Let them call back.” I cannot tell you why he received me so warmly.I was hardly the promising student who had left him sixteen years earlier.Had it not been for“Nightline,”Morrie might have died without ever seeing me again. What happened to me? The eighties happened .The nineties happened.Death and sickness and getting fat and going bald happened.I traded lots of dreams for a bigger paycheck, and I never even realized I was doing it .Yet here was Morrie talking with the wonder of our college years,as if I'd simply been on a long vacation “Have you found someone to share your heart with?” he asked .“Are you at peace with yourself?” “Are you trying to be as human as you can be?” I felt ashamed, wanting to show I had been trying hard to work out such questions.Whathappened to me? I once promised myself I would never work for money, that I would join thePeace Corps, and that 1 would w*w^w.k&s#5@u.c~o*mlive in beautiful, inspirational places. Instead, I had been in Detroit for ten years,at the same workplace, using the same bank, visiting the same barber .I was thirty-seven,more mature than in college, tied to computers and modems and cell phones.I was no longer young, nor did I walk around in gray sweatshirts with unlit cigarettes in my mouth.I did not have long discussions over egg salad sandwiches about the meaning of life. My days were full, yet I remained, much of the time, unsatisfied . What happened to me?56.When did the author graduate from Morrie’s college? When I was growing up, I was embarrassed to be seen with my father. He was badly crippled (跛脚), and when we would walk together, his hand on my arm for balance, people would stare, I would be ashamed of the unwanted attention. If ever noticed or bothered, he never let on.It was difficult to walk together—and because of that, we didn’t say much as we went along. But as we started out, he always said, “You set the pace. I will try to follow you.”Our usual walk was to or from the subway, which was how he got to work. He went to work sick, and even in bad weather. He almost never missed a day, and would make it to the office even if others could not. It was a matter of pride for him. When snow or ice was on the ground, it was impossible for him to walk, even with help... Such times my sister or I would pull him through the streets of Brooklyn, N.Y., on a child’s sleigh to the subway entrance. Once there, he would try to grasp handrail until he reached the lower steps that the warmer tunnel air kept ice free. In Manhattan the subway station was the basement of his office building, and he would not have to go outside again until we met him in Brooklyn on his way home. w.w.w.k.s.5.u.c.o.mWhen I think of it now, I am surprised at how much courage it must have taken for a grown man to suffer from shame and disability. And I am also surprised at how he did it—without bitterness or complaint. He never talked about himself as an object of pity, not did he show any envy of the more fortunate or able. What he looked for in others was a “good heart”, and if he found one, the owner was good enough for him.Now that I am older, I believe that is a proper standard by which to judge people, even though I still don’t know exactly what a “good heart” is. But I know the times I don’t have one myself. He has been away for many years now, but I think of him often. I wonder if he sensed my reluctance to be seen with him during our walks. If he did, I am sorry I never told him how sorry I was, how unworthy I was, how I regretted it. I think of him when I complain about my troubles, when I am envious of another’s good fortune, when I don’t have a “good heart”.【小题1】How did the man treat his father when he was young?A.He helped his father happily.B.He never helped his father.C.He helped his father, but not very happily.D.He only helped his father take a walk after supper.【小题2】As a disabled man, his father____.A.didn’t work very hardB.didn’t go to work from time to timeC.hated those who had good fortuneD.was happy and satisfied, and never lost hope【小题3】What does the underlined word “reluctance” mean in the article? Everybody hates rats. But in the earthquake capitals of the world – Japan, Los
Angeles, Turkey – rats will soon be man’s new best friends.
What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue dogs. Why?
Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find
living people. But dogs are big and they can’t get into small spaces. So now a
new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.
How does it work? First , the rat is trained to smell people. When
this happens, the rat’s brain gives a signal(信号).This is sent to a small radio on its back, and
then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When rat’s brain activity jumps,
the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.
Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are
better. Christian Linster at Cornell University, New York, says, “Robots’ noses
don’t work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that. ”
Rats can also see in the dark. They are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs,
and unlike robots, they don’t need electricity!
The “rat project” is not finished, but Julie Ryan of International
Rescue Corps in Scotland says, “It would be fantastic. A rat could get into
spaces we couldn’t get to, and a rat would get out if it wasn’t safe.” Perhaps
for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building(but only after an earthquake,
of course.)

为什么?(2分) __________________________________________________________________________小题2:“于是扑扑衣上的泥土,心里很轻松似的。” (2分)_______________________________________________________________________________小题3:“这时我看见他的背影,我的泪很快地流下来了”和“我便进来坐下,我的眼泪又来了”,请你说说两次流泪的原因分别是什么?(2分)_______________________________________________________________________________小题4:文中对父亲的外貌描写是“戴着黑布小帽,穿着黑布大马褂,深青布棉袍”,而“我”带的是父亲给我的“皮大衣”,你认为这样写有什么作用?(2分)_______________________________________________________________________________小题5:结合下面两段文字,就你读了《背影》这篇文章,谈谈你的看法。 _______________________________________________________________________________小题6:生活中,你有过为父亲而流泪的经历吗? 让这泪化作 ________________________________________________________________________。
