Sushi is a kind of food made with a mixture of cooked or raw
fish, vegetables, and rice. Although Sushi is most commonly
considered to have its origin in Japan, it actually began in China
during the 7th Century.
At that time, any fish caught had to be preserved. Raw fish was
cleaned and then pressed between layers of heavy salt. After a
couple of months, the whole process was complete. Over time, a
discovery was made that by rolling the fish in rice that had been
soaked in vinegar the fish was easily fermented (发酵) in a few days
rather than months. The rice was then thrown away and the fish was
eaten. However, with a food shortage, people began consuming the rice
as well as the fish and thus, Sushi today as we know was born.
However, in the 1800s, a famous chef by the name of Yohei created
two styles of Sushi&one called Edo, and the second, Osaka, for two cities.
Sushi is usually consumed with hot green tea. Also, Gari is
offered free and eaten between bites to create a better taste. Two
kinds of sauce are usually available: one is soy sauce, which is
poured on most kinds of S the other is a
thick sweet sauce used on eel (鳗鱼).
Sushi has taken the world by storm and today is a multi-billion
dollar industry. Its popularity continues to rise because people
are looking for healthy food that is quick and easy to make. With
such unbelievable popularity as well as the health benefits of
eating Sushi, it is likely that this food will continue to be a
part of everyday life for many more centuries to come.

Certain animals know without analysis the difference between a
number of objects and a smaller number. In his book The Natural
History of Selbourne (1786), the naturalist Gilbert
White tells how he surreptitiously removed one egg a day
from a kind of bird Plover&s nest, and how the mother laid another
egg each day to make up for the missing one. He notes that other
kinds of birds ignore the loss of a single egg, but if more than
one egg has been removed, they will give up their nests. It has
also been noted that a certain type of bees always provides
five&never four, never six&caterpillars (毛虫) for each of their eggs
so that their young have something to eat when the eggs have
hatched out. Research has also shown that both mice and pigeons can
be taught to distinguish between odd and even (偶数) numbers of food
These have led some people to think that creatures can actually
count. They also point to dogs that have been taught to respond to
questions about numbers with the correct number of barks.
Animals respond to quantities only when they are connected to
survive as in the case of the eggs, or survive as in the case of
food. They can &count& only when the objects are present and only when the numbers involved are
small&no more than seven or eight. In lab experiments, animals which are trained to
count one kind of objects were unable to count any other type. What
interest them are the objects, not the numbers. Animals&
achievements simply are not equal to evidence of counting. They
only show the results of clever, careful training.
67. The author refers to Gilbert&s book in paragraph 1 in order
to_______.
A. support the idea that animals can count
B. show attitudes have changed since 1786
C. prove that some animals are aware of quantities
D. indicate that more research is needed in this field

A. quickly B. secretly
C. occasionally D. carefully
69. The author mentions all of the following are aware of
quantities in some way EXCEPT _______.
A. caterpillars B. plovers
C. mice D. bees
70. Where does this text probably come from?
A. A news report. B. A science fiction.
C. A park guide. D. A biology magazine.

根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为多余选项。
Taking a math test can be pretty stressful. Even if you know the
material, you can still get the problem wrong. Knowing how to go
through your math test and check your work can save you from
handing in a test full of mistakes that can be avoided.
Write it out
You can also check a math problem by writing everything out on
paper. 72 Writing out math problems reduces your chances of
missing anything to the lowest possible level, which is a common
cause of incorrect answers.
Make sure your answers work by doing the opposite procedure of
what your problem calls for, including the answer you got the first
time around. In other words, you would use the opposite of this
addition problem&subtraction (减法)&to determine whether or not your
answer is the correct one.
Plugging in
You may find that a variable isn&t good enough or have a problem
where you have to solve for a variable (变量). 74 This is the
only real way to assure yourself that the answer you&ve found
is correct.
Check for a reasonable answer
75 For example, if you get an answer in the millions and
you know it should be in the thousands, you&ve likely misplaced a
point. Go back through the work on your paper to make sure all of
your formulas and calculations are correct. If everything looks
okay, do the problem again and compare the result of the second try
to what you&ve got on the first try.
A. Do the opposite
B. Correct the answers
C. Plug the variable in the equation (方程) to check it out.
D. Therefore you&ll improve your grades, as well as your math
E. It also helps you to figure out everything after you have
already finished the test.
F. If the result of a problem seems to make no sense, it
indicates that the answer is incorrect.
G. This helps you to know what information you have and what
information you need to solve.
注意: 将答案写在答题卡上。写在本试卷上无效。

W: I know where Chicago is. When do you leave?

W: You&re feeling sick today? Have you seen a doctor?
M: No, I&m not sick. (louder) I said that the course would start

M: (louder) I said 24, Granny.
W: I see. What will you have to take?

It&s cold there!
W: If you are cold, put the heater on. There&s no need to shout.
I&m not deaf!
Now, I would like to say something about one of China&s
provinces Tibet. First of all, the climate in most areas of Tibet
is very dry. And it is good thing too. For example, grain can be
stored for more than half a century, and it won&t spoil.
Butter and dried meat will keep for at least one year. And what is
more, epidemics, such as SARS, bird flu, are almost unknown there.
Secondly, much of Tibet is a cold, windswept and grassy high land
with the bluest sky and whitest clouds above. Although it has an
average altitude of 15,000 feet and a dry climate, it is the source
of all the major rivers of Asia. The icy waters from there support
the people and life along these rivers. And thirdly, the highest
point of the planet is there. The highest peak of the Himalaya
Mountains is about 29,140 feet high. At this altitude the air is
very thin. So the climbing is very difficult. Sportsmen take great
pride in getting to the summit. They want to see the legendary roof
of the world. (41)
