High rate of in-stent restenosis (ISR) remained an unsolved clinical problem in clinical practice, especially among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Diabetic patients often had hypertriglyceridemia with elevated levels of very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C). Increasing evidence suggested that VLDL-C was known as a significant risk factor for atherosclerosis and had been recommended as a treatment target by current dyslipidemia guidelines. However, the role of VLDL-C in the occurrence and development of ISR in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with DM had not been studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the elevated levels of VLDL-C and the risk of ISR in CAD patients with DM.
A total of 1390 diabetic patients, who underwent coronary drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation at Beijing Anzhen Hospital and followed up by angiography within 6-24 months, were consecutively enrolled. Patients' demographic and clinical characteristics, including age, gender, CAD risk factors, family history, life style, medical history, and coronary angiographic information, were collected carefully at baseline percutaneous coronary intervention and follow-up angiography. Multivariate Cox's proportional hazards regression modeling using the step-wise method (entry, 0.05; removal, 0.05) was used to determine the independent risk associated with ISR in diabetic patients.
Finally, 1206 of patients were included in this study. ISR occurred in 132/1206 diabetic patients (10.9%) by follow-up angiography. Patients with ISR had elevated median serum VLDL-C levels compared with those without ISR (0.65 mmol/L vs. 0.52 mmol/L, P = 0.030). The multivariate regression analysis showed that VLDL-C was significantly associated with the risk of ISR in diabetic CAD patients (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.15, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.03-1.29, P = 0.017). The HR for the risk of ISR associated with VLDL-C level ≥0.52 mmol/L was 3.01 (95% CI: 1.24-7.34, P = 0.015).
Conclusion:
The elevated level of serum VLDL-C was a significant and independent risk factor for ISR in diabetic CAD patients after coronary DES implantation.Do you want to read the rest of this article?

more authorsAbstractA modified one step and cost-effective chemical green route has been used to synthesize oleate-capped TiO2 anatase nanocrystals (NCs) doped with different amounts of europium, with high yields and without high-temperature post-calcination processes. Europium doping endowed TiO2 NCs with an intense red luminescence associated with the ?D0 → ?F2 transition of the electronic structure of Eu?? and was responsible for both the morphological change of the NCs structure (from nanorods to spherical nanoparticles) and the blue shift in the absorption edge respect to the undoped TiO2 NCs. Furthermore, photocatalytic experiments revealed that a low-content (0.5 mol%) Eu?? doped TiO2 NCs showed the best ability as photocatalyst for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under both UV and visible light irradiation, even if all the Eu?? doped oleate-capped TiO2 NCs were more effective under visible light. Moreover, taking advantage of their photocatalytic activity, the 0.5% Eu?? doped oleate-capped TiO2 photocatalysts has been employed on cotton fabrics. Our results highlighted that functionalization of cotton textile with Eu?? doped oleate-capped TiO2 NCs imparted new functionalities, such as a high photocatalytic activity toward MB degradation under visible light. In addition, it determined also the change in the wetting behaviour of cotton that switches to a superhydrophobic nature. The obtained fabric also showed stable and robust superhydrophobicity against strong acid and alkaline environments. The generated dye wastes are subsequently tackled by facile cotton fabric-based photocatalytic degradation involving a visible light-active TiO2 photocatalyst under solar light. Coating layer composed from binder and metal oxide nanoparticles prepared by one step method using ultrasonication for uniform dispersion of nanoparticles. Au-NPs were synthesized on commercial TiO2 (P25) by reduction with tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride. The Au/P25 composites were characterized by different techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Time resolved microwave conductivity (TRMC) was used to study the charge carrier dynamics. The photocatalytic activity of Au/TiO2 was evaluated for the degradation of phenol, 2-propanol, and acetic acid, and for H2 production from aqueous methanol solution. The modification of TiO2-P25 with Au-NPs with preferential localization on anatase phase led to an increase of its photocatalytic activity under UV and visible light. TRMC signals show injection of electrons from Au-NPs to the conduction band of TiO2 under visible-light excitation, due to the activation of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Au-NPs. Action spectra (AS) correlate with the absorption spectra proving that decomposition of acetic acid is carried out by photocatalytic mechanism. The modified TiO2-P25 gives also promising results for hydrogen generation under visible light. The stability of these plasmonic photocatalysts was also investigated, and the results show that they can be reused several times without appreciable loss of activity.
