07年9月，绍兴有关部门委托绍兴文理学院外国语学院的师生对市区的英文标识进行了调研，结果发现，市区道路、旅游景点等公共场所存在的英文标识中，有300多处出现错误。市民政局有关人士介绍说，调查发现，市区错误的英文标识主要有标牌制作上技术性错误、招牌标识不统一、翻译错误和中文化翻译四大类。
　　据此，绍兴市有关部门于近期制订了“市区开展规范地名标识和中英文标识的整治方案”，整治的范围包括市区所有交通要道(道路交叉口)、名胜游览地、公园、车站、码头、桥梁、大商场(店)、四星和五星旅游饭店等公共场所的路牌、标识牌、广告牌。
　　按照整治方案，绍兴路牌、标识牌、广告牌及景区、商厦、饭店内的说明、介绍中涉及的地名，其罗马字母拼写，一律用“汉语拼音方案”。有关人士介绍说，有些地方的路牌英文中，前半部分的专名用拼音，后半部分的通用名用英文，如解放路就被翻译成“JIEFANG&ROAD”，其实这是不正确的。按照此次的整治方案，市区解放路的英文标识应该为“JIEFANG&LU”，而不是“JIEFANG&ROAD”。
