OS X 10.8.2 Hardware Compatibility
Hardware Components
This is a component level hardware compatibility list. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying hardware. Add which parts you have working in the categories listed below, or create a new category. Please keep alphabetical order inside the categories. The categories themselves are ordered by popularity. Please list any caveats or problems as well.
ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
Please add hardware into tables.
This is for 10.8.2 builds only.
For how to edit the Wiki, please see
thread. Thank you!

Hardware Name
32/64bit working with patches
ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3
System configuration:
Intel i7 2600k
DDR3 1600MHz 3x4GB
nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti-448 1280MB
Audio Realtek ALC892
LAN Realtek RTL8111E
Component status:
Wireless (Rosewill RNX-N600UBE) works with Ralink RT2870 driver by editing kext with new decimal device ID number
Audio - ACL892 modified AppleHDA and HDAEnable1.kext
Ethernet - Realtek RTL8XXX kext
USB 2.0 - works OOB
Shutdown/Reboot - works OOB
Sleep - ???
GFX - works OOB
Installation method:
myHack with 10.8.2 InstallESD.dmg from AppStore
Post install:
audio and LAN kexts
NOT Working:
Sleep mode
Z77 Extreme 4
Intel i5/3570k
WORKING: LAN, Integrated video, Nvidia Video
NOT WORKING: USB 3 - still some weird issues like lockups or USB locking, audio - weird ports but working, sleep, and weird display artifacts from time to time.
Installed using Chimera
Once OS X 10.8.2 was running on Chimera side I copied the .plist files (smbios and org.chameleon...)
The system would now go into OS X successfully, but not before then.
Inserting a USB Thumb drive locks up OS X, so I insert it prior to booting. Fixed?
Applied the Broadcom network patch using KextWizard
Nvidia GTS 450 - Kept going to a black screen (no signal) once it would hit the login screen. Didn't appear to be an out of range issue with the resolution. I installed the Nvidia Fermi Open CL Patch. That still didn't fix the issue, so I rebooted -x -v -F and got in. Once I was in, I rebooted once again without any boot flags. Failed! Added entries to org.chameleon.Boot.plist: npci=0x2000, PCIRootUID=0
ALC898 Audio Fixed by Applying Realtek AC8XX Patch - kind of. Ports are off.
I installed all of FakeSMC, including plugins, BUT it locked up at the spinning icon. To fix that, I had to download FakeSMC r616 from OSX86.net and copied over manually from terminal. I tried this to fix my artifacts that appeared on the screen. It did NOT work.
Patched Bios version 2.50, Broadcom: 3089-BCM57781.zip (IONetworkingFamily.kext), Nvidia Fermi Open CL Patch, Realtek AC8XX Patch
P45X3 Deluxe

All 8 SATA Ports working, USB 3.0 works
Shutdown/Reboot: works
Sleep/ Hibernate / Wake: works
WOL and WOD: works with HP NC360T
BIOS: modded BIOS from , factory settings.
Own DSDT (only removed "\_SB.PCI0.NWAK (Arg0)" from extracted DSDT)
removed NullCPUPowermanagement.kext, Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext
Everything working fine (even USB3, HDA, and onboard graphics), only required minor patches to the DSDT, and no BIOS patches were necessary
No BIOS patches, DSDT patched with IRQs and _HID suffix must be all hex digits (GH), used Realtek ALC892 without DSDT patch

HDD 2 = SATA Seagate 250 gig
Optical Drive = dvd-cdr
Onboard Realtek RTL81xx
Audio = Onboard ALC888
Graphics = Nvidia Geforce 6200 Turbo Cache
Installation Method
Niresh DVD iso
Component Status
Graphics = Working somewhat. glitches in icons ghosting on the desktop and flashy things
LAN = Using Lnx2Mac
after install its perfect
No success as of yet
USB = Several issues such as connection loss requiring replugging
GENERAL OS = Locks up ALOT. only 1 gig of ram may be a source of this problem. the more the better. Have not yet gotten out of Safe mode. At best it freezes up at where i am thinking it loads Graphics. No flags have helped me past this, and it seems to require my cpu flags to get that far cpus=1 cores=2 busratio=12 is the portion i use.
Installation = Took 3 days to get near a complete install, and have yet to see the "installation successful" screen. at the best i have gotten to "install failed, could not restart from drive" or something close to that. more often installer freezes at "about a minute" But in both cases, i restart off the HDD and just try it. have been successful twice with the cant restart and once with a less than a minute freeze.
Install Bootflags = amd -v GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000 ahcdisk=1 UseKernelCache=No
Get To OSx Bootflags = -v -x GraphicsEnabler=No debug=8 (and maybe the rest of the above here, have had mixed results)
Customizations = Less is more. in fact, experiment with removing items if you think you wont need them. The odds are if you add even one driver your Installer is going to freeze. It probably will anyways.
OSx Mountain Lion on AMD
In General, I would say if you have a good OSx Lion, or Snow Leopard, stay with it. The stability of this on AMD is far far from ideal. It requires too many resources and is more prone to total collapse. There are huge issues with the CPU timings from the AMD chip and OSx ML. The install disk I have does not have an option to run installer without the base system to go back to get more drivers. And many times i had to Boot into Snow Leopard to remove files and make edits on the ML driver and Am still not able to get out of safe mode. And as much as my system freezes up, Im not sure I want to. Go download the OSx ML desktop images and add them to your OSx SnowLeopard. It's not like Apple has broken any real new ground here for the resource cost. If you have my config, Try an install off a true Vanilla. I think you will have greater successs and no niresh customizations (or who knows what else). I appreciate his work in putting this together and being able to try it, but to be honest, it has been the most difficult OSx install I have ever experienced. It is locked up right now as i type because i though I could unmount a script he left for us. And his Lion version never saw the installer. Good luck to the rest of you hardcore AMD fans.
