Navigating the Peer Assessment Page and the Peer Assessment Submission Page:The peer assessment page is found , or via the peer assessment tab on the side menu. The peer assessment submission page, where you can find both the peer assessment questions and submit your assignment, is accessed via the peer assessment page. To access the peer assessment submission page, click on the “go to assignments” button underneath the peer assessment timetable on the peer assessment page. The peer assessment submission page will go live at 9:00 am, 27th October. The peer assessment page provides you with a timetable of when you must have your assignment submitted by (11:00 pm, 10th November), and when you must have your (mandatory: two) evaluations submitted by (11:00 pm, 24th November). Note that the deadlines are set to London, UK time. The peer assessment submission page provides you with detailed information about how the evaluation process works, as well as the questions you can choose from. Please note that the evaluation criteria, which it will also be helpful to consult in writing your assignment, are located underneath the questions. The text field in which you can write your assignment is also located underneath the questions (it’s like a comment field on the forums). Using the buttons at the bottom of the peer assessment submission page (below the evaluation criteria) you can save a draft of your work or submit your finished assignment. Don’t worry if you submit your assignment by accident or if, after submitting your assignment, you change your mind about it – you can re-submit a new version of your assignment at any time up until the deadline for the submission of assignments. Only the latest version of your assignment will be assessed. Word Limit Policy:Your assignment can be up to 750 words long, and must be written in English (sorry!). The number of words in your assignment will be counted automatically. A 10% leeway (75 words) is allowed for your title (the question you have chosen to answer) and any citations. Citations:If you want to cite material from the lectures (video transcripts, slides and handouts) or other sources in your essay, please use a consistent citation policy. For example, if quoting from the week two handout you might insert a parenthesis after the quote like the following: (Week Two Handout, p. 3). If quoting from a source other than the lecture materials, you might insert a parenthesis after the quote like the following: (Tolstoy, War and Peace, p. 24). You should also provide a bibliography at the end of your assignment where, at least, sources other than the lecture materials are cited in full, e.g.: Tolstoy, Leo, War and Peace, (London: Penguin Classics, 2006).
This is good philosophical (academic) practice. Given that the assignment has a limit of 750 words, hopefully your bibliography will not be too long. And, again, there is a leeway of 75 words over and above the official word count specifically intended to account for the title of your assignment and any citations. Questions:There are two questions for each week of the course. Only choose one question out of the fourteen available. These questions are: Week 1: -- Philosophy is often classified as a purely reflective method of inquiry into reality and our place in it. But science also investigates reality and our place in it with impressive results. Why (if at all) should we engage in philosophical inquiry into these matters?Week 1: -- Do you find Dr. Wards definition of philosophy convincing, and can there be such a thing as the ‘right way’ of thinking about things?Week 2: -- If knowledge is not justified true belief, then how might we go about satisfying the anti-luck intuition?Week 2: -- If we can’t rule out sceptical hypotheses, can we know anything about the world?Week 3: -- What is John Searle’s ‘Chinese Room’ argument meant to illustrate, and do you agree that it succeeds in this aim?Week 3: -- Could a computer have a mind?Week 4: -- Is relativism a form of objectivism?Week 4: -- Should we be moral relativists?Week 5: -- What are the advantages and drawbacks of intellectual autonomy and intellectual solidarity?Week 5: -- Was Hume right to think that one should never believe that a miracle has taken place on the basis of testimony?Week 6: -- What do you think of Lipton’s view that inference to the best explanation warrants conclusions about unobserved unobservables (such as trilobites and dinosaurs) not more than about unobservables (such as electrons and neutrinos)?Week 6: -- Are there good reasons to think that scientific theories should be true, rather than “merely” empirically adequate?Week 7: -- Explain David Lewis’s view of causal loops.Week 7: -- Is time travel logically possible? Please be advised that you cannot make up your own question. This is because you are grading each other – it would be unfair to present your peers with an assignment on a topic they have no experience of. What Kind of Writing Do the Assignments Require? It is desirable that your assignment draws on what has been discussed in the lecture material. (This is the point of the sixth of the evaluation criteria – “Engaging with the material”.) Indeed, your assignment should aim to illustrate that you have understood the main points of the lecture material. (This is the point of the seventh of the evaluation criteria – “Understanding the material”.) However, whilst such material should be discussed carefully, of course you can go beyond such material. Your assignment should provide an argument, i.e., make a claim and support that claim with reasons. (This is the point of the third of the evaluation criteria – “Argument”.) This claim should represent your opinion on the topic of your chosen question, but, again, this opinion should be offered a reasoned defence. One way to do this is to anticipate and address any obvious objections to it. (This is the point of the fifth of the evaluation criteria – “Objections”.) Again, it is (highly) recommended that your consult the evaluation criteria in writing your assignment.
Evaluation Criteria:(Please note that on the peer assessment submission page these criteria have a slightly different format, where (a) = (1), (b) = (2), etc., and (1) or (2) correspond to the marks you would give an assignment you are evaluating for each criterion you are evaluating it on, where the higher the mark the better.) 1.

英语翻译Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic My Opinion on Advertisement. You should write at least 120 words and you should base your composition on the outline below:Some people hold the idea that the advertisement is a necessary evil in modern life. What do you think? My Opinion on Advertisement As is known to all, angels and evils are poles apart. But is there anything that combines the two perfectly? Some there is-the advertisement. With the growing influence of mass media, advertising invades every aspect of our lives.Whenever we turn on the TV,look through a newspaper, open the mailbox,or surf on the Internet, advertisements would immediately jump into our sight. As they make things so attractive,we often end up buying things that we do not really need.Advertising not only adds to the price of the goods, thus harming the consumer's interest, but also imposes a kind of materialistic value upon the audience. But that is only part of the story-advertisements are informative as well as persuasive. They provide us with up-to-date information about the latest products. Some advertisements are so elegantly presented that we are inspired or even moved. No matter it is an evil or an angel, advertisement has become an indispensable part of our modern life.
