In Florida, pari-mutuel wagering is authorized
for horse racing, harness horse racing, greyhound racing, jai alai games, and cardroom
poker games. Additionally, slot machine
gaming at pari-mutuel facilities is authorized in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
is one of the primary pari-mutuel states in the nation, and is the leading
state in greyhound racing, as well as a major horse racing state. Florida is also the only state in the United States where
live jai alai games are conducted. Currently there are

Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering is a program area of the Department of
Business and Professional Regulation within the Executive Branch of Florida's
government.& The division is charged with
the regulation of Florida's
pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot gaming industries, as authorized by , Florida Statutes, as well
as collecting and safeguarding associated revenues due to the state. The division is also
the State Compliance Agency (SCA) under the provisions of the Gaming Compact Between the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the State of Florida.

To enhance and increase the utilization of
state-of-the-art technological capabilities to better serve the public, simplify
and expedite the licensure process, and ensure compliance with the pari-mutuel
laws and rules pursuant to Chapters 550, 551, and Section 849.086, Florida

Lottery & Contact the Florida Lottery at
Bingo & Counties that allow bingo have their own individual
ordinances which govern their operation. Contact the local State Attorney's
Office for the county in which you are requesting information about bingo.
"Cruises to Nowhere" & These cruises traditionally dock in
a Florida port, but conduct their operations at sea, outside the boundaries of
Florida, and are therefore not regulated by the Division of Pari-Mutuel

The Department of Justice’s Peculiar Timing — Dec 23rd, 2011

The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is an infamous time for governments to release information they hope to keep under the public radar – good luck keeping anything hidden in the electronic-communication age. Such was the case with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and their release of a legal opinion regarding the.
Consider the following events and timeline:
July 14, 2011 – A , co-signed by Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) andSen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), requesting the Department of Justice’s clarification and action toward illegal, online gambling in the United States. In the letter they wrote, “We think it is important that the Department of Justice pursue aggressively and consistently those offering illegal Internet gambling in the United States.… In addition, we have two further concerns: the spread of efforts to legalize intrastate Internet gambling and the spread of efforts to offer such intrastate Internet gambling through state-sponsored lotteries.… We believe that the Department of Justice’s longstanding position has been that all forms of Internet gambling are illegal …” The online gambling lobby is spinning this co-signed letter as Sen. Kyl softening toward online gambling.
– Sen. Kyl remains opposed to online gambling.
September 20, 2011 –
in response to a 2009 request for clarification by New York State’s lottery division and the Illinois governor’s office regarding intentions to sell online lottery tickets to state residents. The opinion noted that “nothing in the materials supplied by the Criminal Division suggests that the New York or Illinois lottery plans involve sports wagering, rather than garden variety lotteries. Accordingly, we conclude that the proposed lotteries are not within the prohibitions of the Wire Act.”
The DOJ’s opinion basically states that the Federal Wire Act only forbids online sports betting – not intra-state sanctioned online gambling. (This DOJ legal opinion was not yet released to the public.)

passes the nation’s first intrastate online poker regulations one day before DOJ releases statement that the Federal Wire Act of 1961 applies only to sports gambling/betting.
December 23, 2011 – US Department of Justice, Assistant Attorney General Virginia A. Seitz, finally
– and a new interpretation of the 1961 Federal Wire Act – just before Christmas 2011. The “hidden” news? The Act applies only to sports betting – not intrastate (in-state), online gambling. (The DOJ legal opinion first went public in a Forbes business article – read Forbes’ “,” for reference.)
