　　近日，从中国奥委会获悉，北京市和河北省张家口市已正式向中国奥委会提出了申办2022年冬季奥林匹克运动会的申请。

　　Beijing and the northern Chinese city of Zhangjiakou are bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
　　The Chinese Olympic Committee sent a formal nomination letter to the International Olympic Committee last Sunday and the bid is supported by the Chinese government, China's official news agency Xinhua reported this week.
　　"The bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics will further improve the development of the Chinese Olympic cause, display the comprehensive power of China and push forward the coordinated development of the economies of the two cities," the committee said in a statement.
　　北京和中国北方城市张家口将申办2022年冬奥会。
　　据中国官方新闻通讯社新华社报道称，上周日，中国奥委会已就此事正式致函国际奥委会。此次申办得到了中国政府支持。
　　中国奥委会发表声明称：“申办2022年冬奥会，将进一步促进中国奥林匹克运动事业的发展，展示我国的综合实力，并推动北京和张家口两地的经济社会协调发展。”

　　文中的Winter Olympics就是“冬奥会”的意思。Olympics解释为“奥林匹克运动会”，相当于Olympic Games。Olympics是一个复数型名词，其后的谓语动词亦应用复数型。奥运会分为夏季奥运会（Summer Olympics）和冬奥会，都是每四年举行一届。
　　此外，文中第二段的International Olympic Committee，可简写作IOC，是“国际奥委会”的意思。除了奥运会之外，国际奥委会还主办残奥会（Paralympic Games）和青奥会（The Youth Olympic Games，简写作YOG）。申办奥运会可以写作bid for Olympic Games。
