  Origin of Christmas
The name Christmas is short for &Christ's Mass&. A Mass is a kind of Church service. Christmas is a religious festival. It is the day we celebrate as the birthday of Jesus.
There are special Christmas services in Christian churches all over the world. But many of the festivities of Christmas do not have anything to do with religion. Exchanging gifts and sending Christmas cards are the modern ways of celebrating the Christmas in the world.
The birth of Jesus had a story: In Nazareth, a city of Galilee. The virgin's name was Mary was betrothed to Joseph. Before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was minded to put her away secretly. While he thought about these things, Gabriel, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him did not be afraid to take Mary as wife. And Mary will bring forth a Son, and he shall call his name, Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
Before Jesus births, Joseph and Mary came to Quintus was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up out of Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and of the lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And that, Christmas is the feast of the nativity of Jesus, is on 25th, December every year. But nobody know the actual birthday of Jesus. And the Christmas has become popular when Christmas cards appeared in 1846 and the concept of a jolly Santa Claus was first made popular in nineteenth Century.
Later, though most of the church received on December 25 for Christmas, but solid for use throughout the church calendar is different, the specific date can not be unified, then put on December 24 to January 6, the second year for the Christmas holiday season (Christmas tide), around the church can according to specific local conditions during this period within the celebration of Christmas day. Since December 25 is recognized the most churches after Christmas, the original of the January 6 epiphany just remember Jesus' baptism the, but the Catholic Church decided as January 6 &three kings to the section&, to Memorial Jesus was born when the East Three Kings (that is, three doctoral) pilgrimage to the story. With the spread of Christianity, Christmas has become a Christian, and even the majority of non Christian people a major festival. In many countries in Europe and America, people attach great importance to the festival, which is connected with the new year, and the excitement and celebration of the event has greatly exceeded the new year. The main commemorative activities in December 25th and that should be the legend.
Christmas is on December 25th to commemorate the birth of Jesus, but the real birth of the day no one knows. In nineteenth Century, the pop of Christmas cards, Santa Claus, Christmas also began to pop up.

Christmas Eve is popular to say Christmas Eve. That night, the whole family will reunion in the sitting room, around beside the Christmas tree to sing Christmas songs, exchange gifts, share with each other the joys and sorrows of life for a year, the inner expression of love and blessing. In the evening will see a group of cute little boy or girl, playing guitar in hand poetry, a singing poetry of good tidings. What's this festival is news of how to?
The night when Jesus was born, a shepherd, in the wilderness, suddenly heard a voice from heaven, and gave them the good news that Jesus was born. According to the Bible, Jesus came to be the king of the world, so the angel sent the message to more people.
Later, people will follow the angels, in the Christmas Eve night journalists everywhere preaching the message of Jesus was born, until today, caroling has become a indispensable Christmas show.

  The origin of Santa Claus
History tells usthat the origin of Santa Claus begins in the 4th century with Saint Nicholas,Bishop of Myra (an area in present day Turkey). One of the legends tellsabout that he acquired a fortune when his parents died while he was still in histeens. By nature St.Nicholas was a generous and honest man, particularlydevoted to children. He also cared deeply for the poor. He brought variousgifts, money and other useful items to the houses of the poor. He did this atnight, and in secrecy, so that no one knew, as he wanted no glory, he justwanted to help people. He became widely known for his generosity.
There is one famous legend about SaintNicholas. The story tells of Nicholas hearing one day of three beautifulsisters who lived in a miserable hut on the edge of Myra. The three sisters were very poor. Theycould barely earn enough to keep themselves and their old mother from starvingto death. When Nicholas heard of their plight, he was very concerned. Hedecided to do something to help them.
One night, when everyone was asleep, Nicholascrept through the streets to the edge of town. Quietly, he tiptoed up to thehut where the three sisters lived. He climbed onto the roof and dropped threebags of gold through the hole in the roof where the smoke from the fire cameout. Now it so happened that the three sisters has washed their stockingsbefore they went to bed. The stockings has been hung by the fire to dry. WhenNicholas dropped the gold through the smoke hole, each bag of gold fell into astocking.
The three sisters were overjoyed to findthree bags of gold in their stockings when they woke up the next morning. Soon, the story began to spread. Other people began to hang up stockings in the hopeof finding bags of gold when they woke up in the morning. From this legendsprang the custom of hanging stockings up by the chimney on Christmas Eve. Overthe years, Saint Nicholas became associated with Christmas.
After his death around 350 A.D. he was buried in Myra, but in 1087 Italian sailors purportedly stole his remains and removed them to Bari, Italy, greatly increasing St. Nicholas' popularity throughout Europe. His kindness and reputation for generosity and love for children gave rise toclaims that he could perform miracles and devotion to him increased. St.Nicholas became the patron saint of Russia, where he was famous for hisred cape, flowing white beard, and bishop's mitre. In Greece, he is the pat in France he was the patron of lawyers, and in Belgium thepatron of children and travelers. The Dutch kept the legend of St. Nicholasalive. In 16th century Holland,Dutch children would place their wooden shoes by the hearth in hopes that theywould be filled with a treat and goodies.

People thought the spluttering sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, such an activity was completely or partially forbidden in big cities once the government took security, noise and pollution factors into consideration. As a replacement, some buy tapes with firecracker sounds to listen to, some break little balloons to get the sound too, while others buy firecracker handicrafts to hang in the living room. The lively atmosphere not only fills every household, but permeates to streets and lanes. A series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held for days.
