elementary只有形容词的性质，强调的是初级的，基础性的东西，一般和难易有关，
比如我们常常说的，elementary school 小学，elementry students 初级学生/入门的；
fundamental作形容词的时候强调的是重要性，根基作用等，是指重要程度即非常重要，如The fundamental cause of his success is persistence.
fundamental作名词的时候就是指基本的法则、原则、基础。在第一题里，显然需要一个名词。
第二题中，word 指的是信、消息、音讯的意思，
words 是word的复数，可以指诺言，信或者单词、词等，比如，I will keep all my words that i gave you. 我将会信守所有对你的承诺。
应该是在句子中常用到的，是word 加上定冠词the，特指某种事物，比如，How to use word “cry”? 意思是：cry 这个词应该怎么使用？

至于the words，用法和the word 是一样的，只是单复数的不同。

By measuring it by the vowels and consonants taken together. ? In this case short vowels constitute long syllables when followed by a number of consonants, and long vowels constitute short syllables when followed by few or no consonants. In the English language it is the former mea that is, the quantity of the vowel determines the quantity of the syllable. 59. Orthography. ? This term is derived from the two Greek words, orthos (upright, right, correct) and graphd (I write). It signifies right writing. Orthography teaches us to represent the words of the spoken language that is, by writing or printing. If we first pronounce a word (e. g. man, child), then spell it or write it down, and, lastly, inquire whether the spelling is correct, we ask a question belonging to the province of orthography. Orthography deals with words as they are spelt, or with language as it is written. 60. Orthoepy. ? Orthoepy is different from orthography. There are a vast number of words of which the pronunciation is doubtful, being sounded differently by different persons. For instance, the word neither is pronounced in three ways: nither, nayther, and neelher. To ascertain the proper pronunciation of words is the province of orthoepy. The word means right pronunciation. It teaches us to speak the words of our language accurately. If we first pronounce a word, and then ask whether we have pronounced it properly, we ask a question belonging to the province of orthoepy.
