Geneva School of Boerne is continually seeking ways to actively involve the parents, siblings, and grandparents of students in the programs and activities of the school.
The Parents' Corner includes links to the school's weekly communications (such as iFYI and WAGs) as well as order forms (lunch, Booster Club items, etc.) and schedules.
Geneva’s football program will take a significant step forward this fall when our varsity players compete at the 11-man level for the first time.
The original plan was to move to 11-man at the varsity level in the fall of 2016, when all TAPPS districts will be realigned.
However, an unexpected opening in a local 11-man district caused us to consider making the move a year early.
Six-man has been a great sport for Geneva since we started competing at the Rhetoric School level in 2008.
With most roster sizes of the lower-level 6-man teams topping out at ten to twelve players, Geneva was able to field its first team when the Rhetoric School consisted of only freshmen and sophomore students. The early years were rough as our young and small Geneva team was often outmanned by stronger, more experienced teams.
However, as the Rhetoric School grew and the program developed, our varsity football team was able to compete at a higher level in a relatively short period of time.
In five years of varsity 6-man competition, Geneva made it to the state final the last three years and brought home the state title this season.
There is no denying the success of the 6-man program has been enjoyable and the state championshi however, there is also little doubt that our football players are ready for greater challenges.
After discussing the matter with our Rhetoric School boys and football coaches, we believe that the time to make the change is now.
Just after the Christmas break, we were approved by TAPPS and the schools in our new district to assume the place of TMI next season in the local DII 11-man football district.
The schools in this district include Austin Hyde Park, Austin Regents, Corpus Christi John Paul II, San Antonio Cornerstone, San Antonio Holy Cross and Victoria St. Joseph.
Geneva will likely be the smallest school (grades 9-12) so we know we will have our work cut out for us.
Nonetheless, I am confident that the more challenging schedule and the growing number of students on our roster will only give Geneva coaches more opportunities to develop the character and deepen the faith of our players.
The schedule for the 2015 football season will come out later this spring and you will notice that all of our varsity home games are scheduled to be played at Boerne I.S.D. stadium on the campus of Boerne H.S. in order to accommodate the larger team rosters, bands and crowds.
I hope to see you in the stands next year cheering on our young men as they lead Geneva in yet another exciting adventure.

My Last Year With the Nuns
Bret Fetzer / 2014, Seattle / Color88min / Blu-ray
HELDOVER after a very popular engagement at the NW Film Forum.
In Matt Smith’s autobiographical tale “My Last Year With the Nuns,” the universe of his 8th grade self is about ten blocks long. Smith and his friends roam the heavily Catholic Capitol Hill neighborhoods of Seattle, Washington in the late 1960s wandering from St. Joseph’s Church to the Seattle Times newspaper shack, from school playgrounds to a murky and tangled ravine that cuts through the city. The paper shack lies on the edge of the racial ‘red line’ drawn to enforce the era’s prejudice, providing a rare forum where white and black kids come together for a few minutes each day before returning to their segregated streets and lives.
"The result is like "Amacord" by way of Spalding Gray -- a rich coming-of-age story that gradually accumulates its appeal through the storyteller's investment in bringing each ingredient to life." indieWIRE

The Devils
Ken Russell / 1971, UK / Color103min / 35mm
In seventeenth-century France, a promiscuous and divisive local priest, Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed), uses his powers to protect the city of Loudun from destruction at the hands of the establishment. Soon, he stands accused of the demonic possession of Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave), whose erotic obsession with him fuels the hysterical fervour that sweeps through the convent. With its bold and brilliant direction by Ken Russell, magnificent performances by Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, exquisite Derek Jarman sets and sublimely dissonant score by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, The Devils stands as a profound and sincere commentary on religious hysteria, political persecution and the corrupt marriage of church and state.

A Fuller Life
Samantha Fuller / 2013, USA80min / Blu-ray
A FULLER LIFE celebrates the independent spirit of a true American maverick whose unique output broke new ground in journalism, filmmaking, storytelling and even service to his country: Samuel Fuller. Adapted from Fuller’s award-winning autobiography, A Third Face, the film consists of 12 segments, each of which features an admirer of Sam's dramatizing their interpretation of Sam's memoirs. Set in the late director’s historic office, the cast channels Fuller amid his beloved Royal typewriter, massive collection of books, screenplays, treatments, war memorabilia, and, of course, the ever- present big fat cigar. A Fuller Life presents for the first time recently discovered 16mm films shot by Fuller, footage he shot on the front lines during World War II as well as location scouts and home movies. Every word spoken in this documentary, whether by a performer or from a clip of one of his films, was written by him, creating a posthumous self-portrait of the subject in his own words.
In honor of A FULLER LIFE, we'll show rare 16mm prints of SHOCK CORRIDOR and THE NAKED KISS. See below.
Shock Corridor
Samuel Fuller / 1963, USA101min / 16mm
In Shock Corridor, the great American writer-director-producer Samuel Fuller masterfully charts the uneasy terrain between sanity and madness. Seeking a Pulitzer Prize, reporter Johnny Barrett (Peter Breck) has himself committed to a mental hospital to investigate a murder. As he closes in on the killer, insanity closes in on him. Constance Towers costars as Johnny’s coolheaded stripper girlfriend. With its startling commentary on racism and other hot-button issues in sixties America and its daring photography by Stanley Cortez, Shock Corridor has had far-reaching influence.
"...harsh, grotesque, and violent -- and, incidentally, brilliant in a very original way." Dave Kehr
The Naked Kiss
Samuel Fuller / 1964, USA90min / 16mm
The setup is pure pulp: A former prostitute (a crackerjack Constance Towers) relocates to a buttoned-down suburb, determined to fit in with mainstream society. But in the strange, hallucinatory territory of writer-director-producer Samuel Fuller, perverse secrets simmer beneath the wholesome surface. Featuring radical visual touches, full-throttle performances, brilliant cinematography by Stanley Cortez, and one bizarrely beautiful musical number, The Naked Kiss is among Fuller’s greatest, boldest entertainments.
"[a] fizzy, wigged-out masterpiece... Sirk-on-a-shoestring, and twice as cynical." Slant Magazine

Marty is a caustic, small-time con artist drifting from one scam to the next. Revenge of the Mekons
Joe Angio / 2014, USA / Color96min / Blu-ray
REVENGE OF THE MEKONS chronicles the unlikely career of the genre-defying collective notorious for being—as rock critic Greil Marcus notes—“the band that took punk ideology most seriously.”
Born out of the 1977 British punk scene, the Mekons progressed from a group of socialist art students with no musical skills to the prolific, raucous progeny of Hank Williams. Joe Angio’s exuberant documentary follows their improbable history – a surprising and influential embrace of fo forays into the art world (collaborations with Vito Acconci and Kathy Acker); and consistent bad luck with major record labels. Among the celebrated fans who appear on screen to testify to the power of their music and artistic innovations are authors Jonathan Franzen (The Corrections) and Luc Sante (Low Life), musician/actor Will Oldham, film director Mary Harron (I SHOT ANDY WARHOL), comedian/ musician Fred Armisen (Portlandia), and critic Greil Marcus (Mystery Train). REVENGE OF THE MEKONS reveals how, four decades into an ever-evolving career, punk’s reigning contrarians continue to make bold, unpredictable music while staying true to the punk ethos.

Beloved Sisters
Dominik Graf / 2014, Germany / Color170min / Blu-ray
Academy Awards 2015 - Official Foreign Language Submission
In this sweeping yet intimate romantic drama, which is also Germany's official Oscar(R) entry for Best Foreign Language Film, acclaimed director Dominik Graf illuminates the lives of two bold young women and one of classical literature’s most celebrated figures with charm and contemporary energy. As the German Enlightenment flourishes in
Weimar, vibrant Caroline von Beulwitz (Hannah Herszsprung) finds herself in an
unhappy marriage to provide for her mother and shy younger sister Charlotte von
Lengefeld (Henriette Confurius). When both sisters fall for outspoken writer Friedrich
Schiller (Florian Stetter), their desire ignites a journey of shared passion and
creativity. Charlotte and Schiller marry so that the lovers may pursue their ménageà-
trois under the guise of convention, but as Caroline reveals herself to be a talented
author in her own right, the trio's fragile equilibrium is threatened and the sisters’
once unbreakable bond is irrevocably changed.
“Enthralling and gorgeously mounted. An unusually intelligent costume drama of bold personalities torn between the stirrings of the heart and the logic of the mind.” Variety
"A surprisingly brisk, absorbing film, shot and cut with the speed of a thriller.” New York Magazine
“Pushes heritage cinema in new, aesthetically bold directions. Beloved Sisters is the modern film about the German enlightenment...Graf has created nothing less than a romantic national epic. Film Comment
