The Scoring Process The process for calculating reported scores for adaptive tests and traditional paper-and-pencil tests are similar, in that the number of questions answered correctly is adjusted according to the difficulty level of the questions on the test form. Thus the same number of correct responses on different test forms will not necessarily result in the same reported score.
In paper-and-pencil tests, the differences in difficulty among test forms are relatively small and are adjusted through a process known as score equating. The number of questions answered is also figured into the calculation of the reported score since it limits the number that can be answered correctly.
With adaptive testing, an examinee is administered a set of questions with a difficulty level that is specifically designed to mathematical process for calculating a score in this situation incorporates the statistical properties of the questions, the examinee\'s performance on the questions, and how many are answered.

GRE Score Reporting General Test -- Your score report will contain separate scores and percentile ranks for the verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections. The range of scores for each measure is from 200 to 800. If no answers are given in a measure, an NS (No Score) will be reported.
Subject Tests -- Your score report will contain one total score and percentile rank for each test and for some tests, subscores. Scores for each test range from 200 to 990, although the range for any particular Subject Test is usually smaller. Subscores range from 20 to 99. If no answers are given, no scores will be reported for that test.
Your percentile ranks indicate the position of your scores relative to other individuals who have taken the same test in a recent 3-year period. Your scores remain the same, but your percentile ranks may change in subsequent testing years because these data are updated on an annual basis.
For detailed score interpretive information, download Interpreting Your GRE General Test and Subject Test Scores and GRE Guide to the Use of Scores.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Approximate Score Report Mailing Dates Computer Based-Testing Score Reports -- mailed to you and your designated institutions approximately 10 to 15 days after your testing session.
Paper-Based Testing Score Reports -- mailed to you and your designated institutions approximately 4 to 6 weeks following paper-based testing. See approximate score report mailing date. However, institutions have the option of receiving scores on paper roster, disk or tape. These forms are sent out approximately twice a month.
Your own copy of your score report is intended only for your information and personal records. Official reports are sent by ETS directly to all authorized score recipients you designate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Cumulative Reporting GRE Score reporting is cumulative. Current GRE Board Policy states that your scores are reportable for 5 years (until September 15 following the fifth anniversary of your test date). All scores earned during this time will be reported to each institution you designate. You may choose to send only General Test scores, only Subject Test scores, only Writing Assessment scores, or any combination of the above, but you may not choose to have only those scores from a specific test date reported. Your score report will indicate your designated recipients and your cumulative record reported at that time. However, your designated recipients will not receive information concerning the other score recipients you have chosen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Obtaining Older Scores Prior to October 1985, GRE Board policies stated that scores would be reported for 20 years. If you tested between October 1, 1978, and September 30, 1985, you can still request that those scores be sent. A notice will be included in those reports indicating that older scores should be interpreted with caution. There is no additional charge for reporting earlier scores to institutions listed on a current registration form if you enclose a completed Additional Score Report (ASR) Request Form and indicate your earlier test date. If you submit a separate ASR form at a later date, the appropriate fee must be included.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Absence from a Testing Session Only your report will indicate your absence from a test. If you have previous GRE scores on file, they will be sent to the recipients you designated. If you do not want a report sent, delete the recipient codes on the admission ticket correction stub and return it so that it is received at ETS no later than 7 days after the test date (paper-based only). Recipients listed on an ASR form cannot be deleted.

Preventing Unauthorized Release of Your Scores It is a GRE Board policy that your scores be reported only to you, to accredited institutions of higher education granting the baccalaureate or higher degrees, and to approved graduate fellowship-granting sponsors.
Score reports will be released only upon your written request or through the Phone Service for Additional Score Reports. ETS will not release your scores at the request of institutions or fellowship sponsors except for use in research studies that are approved by the GRE Board and that provide anonymity for the test takers and the institutions they attend.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
ETS Review of Test Questions In keeping with its commitment to prepare high quality tests, ETS routinely follows extensive review and quality control procedures to detect and avoid flawed questions and consequent errors in scoring. Such procedures include independent reviews by qualified individuals, pretesting questions for the General Test, feedback from test takers after they have taken the test, and careful analysis of performance data on each question after it has been administered in a test.
Nonetheless, occasionally an error may be discovered after scores have been reported. Whenever this happens the specific circumstances are reviewed carefully, and a decision is made about how best to take corrective action that is the most fair to all concerned.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Retaking GRE Tests Data on the General Test show that repeaters on average show but this finding is tempered by the observation that repeaters are typically a self-selected group who believe that repeating the test will increase their scores. Retaking the Subject Tests may help you in certain circumstances.
If you have studied for a considerable period of time in your field since last taking a Subject Test, a retake may be advisable. However, unless your scores seem unusually low compared with other indicators of your ability, taking the GRE tests again is not likely to result in a substantial score increase. In fact, there is some chance that your scores may drop.
Institutions vary in their use of multiple scores. They may average the scores, consider only the most recent score, or consider only the highest score reported.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Cancellation of Scores by ETS ETS strives to report scores that accurately reflect the performance of every test taker. Accordingly, ETS\'s standards and procedures for administering tests have two primary goals: giving test takers equivalent opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, and preventing some test takers from gaining an unfair advantage over others. To promote these objectives, ETS reserves the right to cancel any test score when, in ETS\'s judgment, a testing irregularity occurs, there is an apparent discrepancy in a test taker\'s photo identification, the test taker engages in misconduct, or the score is invalid for another reason. Reviews of scores by ETS are confidential. When, for any of the above reasons, ETS cancels a test score that has already been reported, it notifies score recipients that the score has been canceled, but it does not disclose the reason for cancellation unless authorized to do so by the test taker.
Testing Irregularities. \"Testing irregularities\" refers to problems with the administration of a test. When testing irregularities occur, they may affect an individual or groups of test takers. Such problems include, without limitation, administrative errors (such as improper timing, improper seating, defective materials, and defective equipment); improper ac and other disruptions of test administrations (such as natural disasters or other emergencies). When testing irregularities occur, ETS may decline to score the test or cancel the test score. When it is appropriate to do so, ETS gives affected test takers the opportunity to take the test again as soon as possible without charge.
Identification Discrepancies. When, in ETS\'s judgment, or the judgment of test center personnel, there is a discrepancy in a test taker\'s identification, the test taker may be dismissed
in addition, ETS may decline to score the test or cancel the test score. See Identification Requirements. Misconduct. If, in ETS\'s judgment, a test taker engages in misconduct in connection with a test, ETS may dismiss the test taker from the test center, decline to score the test, or cancel the test score. Invalid Scores. ETS may also cancel scores if, in its judgment, there is substantial evidence that they are invalid for any other reason. Before canceling score pursuant to this paragraph, ETS notifies the test taker in writing about its concerns, gives the test taker an opportunity to submit information that addresses ETS\'s concerns, considers any such information submitted, and offers the test taker a choice of options. The options include voluntary score cancellation, a free retest, or arbitration in accordance with ETS\'s standard Arbitration Agreement. In addition, the test taker is sent a copy of a booklet, Why ad How Educational Testing Service Questions Test Scores, which explains the process in greater detail. (This booklet is available to any test taker at any time on request.) Note: The retest option is not available outside the United States and Canada. The arbitration option is available only for tests administered in the United States.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Test Fairness and Score Use ETS and the GRE Program have taken steps to assure, to the extent possible, that tests and test scores are fair for all test takers, regardless of group membership. In addition, the GRE Board has developed Guidelines for the Use of GRE Scores, which are included in the GRE Guide to the Use of Scores, which summarizes the considerations for appropriate use of GRE test scores and encourages institutions to use GRE scores appropriately. 新西兰信息精华站
