Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The food we eat in the past was healthier than the food we eat today.
In a simpler time, food is only used to meet human essentially physiological need—hungry. Now it is increasingly influenced by economic and technological factors, however, which leads to the inferior health of the food we eat today.
Few can deny that the relatively high production of genetically modified food contributes a lot to solve the food problem, apparently, which is caused by the rapid growth of people around the world. However, the code of plants’ gene is too complex to decipher for us within limited understanding of its essential mechanism. In fact, there are some reports that people have various discomfort due to the use of GMF. Although we could not find the direct relation between GFM and human health today, we are supposed to remain prudent.
In addition, we are eating more and more toxic chemical substances inadvertently that are put into the food in order to improve its conserving time, as well as keep savor and color. For instance, it is reported that a hamburger could be preserved from decay for a few months or even longer without any special measure. If there was not preservative, we would never see the ‘magic’. How could those people say we are enjoying more healthier food than past when they are eating in a KFC?
It is true that we are making efforts to grow organic and green plants and animals. Nevertheless, our assumption is based on a questionable analogy because we think the environment and biological gene had not changed over thousands of years. Actually, the abuse of pesticide has contaminated the soil and water seriously and natural selection has forced the genetic evolution of plants in turn. Thus, how could we ensure that we would cultivate identical food in a totally different condition?
For those reasons, we can safely conclude that modern food not only couldn’t provide more nutrients for us, but maybe contain more harmful stuff.
