Alton Towers is the most famous theme park in
the UK which has been successfully running since 1980. The park is set high in
the hills of Alton in Staffordshire and it is hidden amongst the trees.
The buying up of the theme
park has caused more and more money to be put into the park which is only good
for thrill seekers! The amount of new rides is increasing but at the expense of
the admittance fees. However, the higher fees by no means stops people from
visiting with still around 2.5 million visitors each year.
The theme park is open this
year from the 17th March through until 11th November. This
gives riders the nice hot British summer time to enjoy the rides with
preferably less rainfall. The gates to the park open at 9:30 am and the rides
and other attractions open at 10 am. To make the most of your money and your
day I would suggest getting there on time or it will seem wasted. When I went,
we got there at around 1 o’clock and because of that we didn’t get around
everything we wanted to.
The cost of getting into the
park these days is very expensive so trips there I think for most families would
be few and far between. There are many different prices as the cost changes
depending upon how you pay and when you want to go. There are three sets of

Hey, ladies! It’s summer again and it’s time for a new you! No more make-up, no
more pretending! Yes, that’s right! It’s time to stop making ourselves
beautiful for the camera, and start posting confident pictures without all the
make-up and extra tricks we add onto ourselves in the hope of appearing more
attractive and beautiful. Because believe it or not, we already are!
After we wash our face and go to bed, it is not so
perfect. You know it the face we should confidently be showing to the world!
Who cares if you have pimples(面痕)or your eyes look small, or if you have crow’s feet? Guess what?
Those are actually what make you such a beautifully grown woman. And any person
who doesn’t think so is just not as strong as you.
Nowadays we are so prone to do anything and everything to make us look as young
and perfect as possible. Yet the troth is, by doing this, we are actually
making our tree skin get worse and badly affected by all the junk we put on. We
are making ourselves believe that by changing our appearance we will be more
accepted and seem more attractive to other people. And yet, our final goal is
to find that without all of the make-up. What kind of twisted(扭曲的)game are we really playing with
ourselves?
So I would like to make a suggestion for all women out
there to give yourself a break at least this summer. Take a couple of pictures
without all of that make-up on. You don’t need it every single day, especially
not this hot summer! You’ll be surprised that the more confident you are about
showing the real side of you, the more attractive you will be to everyone else.
Yes, the saying, “Beauty comes from within” is an old
one, definitely still holds some troth today. So be brave, carefree, and
make-up free! Let the world see you for who you really are!
The author thinks that ladies should show others _______.
A. their crow’s
feet&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
B. their beautiful pictures
C. their real face with confidence&&&&&&& D.
their attractive appearance

A. It makes perfect
images.&&&&&&&&&&&&
B. It’s really meaningless.
C. It makes true images go outdated.&&&&& D. It’s hard
to achieve what we wish.
What is the author’s purpose of quoting the old saying?
A. To declare it’s what one really is that matters.
B. To show the importance of adding make-up
C. To give us some examples of adding make-up.
D. To tell us not to neglect those old sayings.
What is the topic of this text?
A. Spending more time being with families and friends.
B. Not putting on any make-up on our face this summer.
C. Paying enough attention to ourselves in this summer.

When you are traveling, it’s vital to know about the customs and etiquette(礼仪,礼节)of the global village. What we
consider polite behavior at home isn’t always accepted outside our borders.
● Etiquette of Gift Giving
Gift giving should be a happy, positive experience. When selecting a present
for someone in Netherlands, don’t purchase fancy kitchen knives or scissors.
Giving sharp, pointy objects as gifts is considered unlucky. Be careful when
presenting flowers to a friend or a business partner in Russia. Yellow blooms suggest cheat or a relationship break up. Traditionally, red
carnations are placed on the tombs of the dead. Writing cards or notes while visiting
South Korea, be mindful of your pen’s ink color. Writing a person’s name in
red ink traditionally suggests that the person has passed away—an important
point to remember when giving a birthday card.
&&& ● Eating Customs
Being early or on time is viewed as being rude, too eager or even greedy in Venezuela. If you are invited to someone’s home for a meal, it’s recommended that you
arrive 10 minutes later than the requested time. When having a meal in Egypt,
don’t use the salt shaker (盐瓶). It’s insulting to your host to spread salt on your food,
which means that you find the meal terrible. Japan is a very polite nation, and
their fondness for etiquette extends to the use of chopsticks. According to Japanese
custom, if you’re in the middle of eating, use the opposite end of your
chopsticks to secure food from a shared plate. When doing business in Turkey, it’s the custom for your host to pay for your meal. Requests to split the bill
won’t be accepted. If you would like to pay your fair share, Turks recommend
inviting your host to a follow-up meal.
Which of the following is tree according to the passage?
A. You can use blue ink to write notes to your friend
from South Korea.
B. Giving a fancy kitchen knife to a friend from Russia is a good choice.
C. Dining with Japanese, one can use either end of the
chopsticks to get food from shared
D. Invited to a meal, one should arrive earlier to show respect for the host.
What does the underlined word “insulting” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

Indifferent.&&&&&& D. Challenging.

The editor of
the new Cool Camping Britain guide chooses some of his favorite new finds in England, Wales and Scotland.
&&& Cleadale, Isle of
Eigg, Inner Hebrides
&&& Is this Britain’s most beautiful campsite? From the grassy point looking seaward to the mountains,
it’s not hard for campers to see how the island inspired The Lord of the Rings
author’s fantasy landscapes. The campsite itself is as wild and wonderful as
its setting.
&&& Open April — September,
from £5 per tent
per night.
&&& Swattesfield,
Thornham Magna, Suffolk
&&& Deep in the wilds of
north Suffolk, this seven-acre campsite has only been open for a few years,
with two fields separated by a lake and surrounded by woodland. The position is
perfect. It’s a great place to do nothing but get into nature. You can put up
your tent in the bottom field or the woodland beyond.
Open Easter —
October, from £10
per tent per night.
&&& Pleasant Streams
Farm, near St Austell, Cornwall
&&& This site, by a lake, is
all about simple pleasures. Located in the former mining village, it has a
summerhouse(凉亭)with
books and games for a rainy day. There are many animals including pigs, hens,
goats and ducks on the farm and a pub just a 10- minute stroll away. There’s
very little to do here, no bells and no whistles. Campfires are encouraged.
&&& Open Easter — September,

Troytown, couldn’t be in a more remote position. Isolation is its greatest
advantage — so bring plenty of books to read and don’t expect a phone signal.
But at least one of life’s necessities is available. Lying on the hillside
overlooking the bay and near the island of the Gugh, it might just win the
prize for best beer garden view in England.
