Pitztal Roundup
16th December 2014
The first major race event of the year has just finished in Pitztal, Austria. The BDST were well represented over the five days of racing in both IPCAS and Europa Cup competition. First up were two Super-G races and a first taste of speed for some of our athletes. In the standing classes Chris Lloyd picked up a 10th and a 15th whilst James Whitley claimed two top 20 finishes in his first SG races. In the sitting class, Mick Brennan and Benji Millard both recovered from DNF's in the first race to take top 10 places in the 2nd race.
A return to the technical discipline of Giant Slalom saw an increased field and appearances from our VI pairings. John Dickinson-Lilley and Jack Davey finished 12th and 13th whilst competing against most of the competitors from the Sochi Paralympics, a very creditable pair of results. In the womens competition Millie Knight and Jen Kehoe swept all before them claiming two Golds. There were also top ten finishes for James Whitley and Mick Brennan
Following 3 days of IPCAS competition, it was time to step up a level with the first Europa Cup competitions of the season. Millie and Jen didn't miss a beat and claimed another two Gold medals, taking their tally to four in four days! In the mens competition there were some strong results from Benji in his first EC races as he took 11th in the GS and 9th in the SL whilst Chris and James both claimed top 20 finishes whilst up against a very strong field.
Full results can be seen in the race results section.
The athletes now have a couple of days off and a short transfer over to Kuhtai for the next competition which runs from the 19th to the 21st December. Keep an eye out for updates here, on our

The performances from all the athletes have been nothing short of sensational and they have really raised the level awareness and interest in winter sports for the disabled in the UK. Indeed, I have been dealing with an unprecedented number of enquiries from new possible athletes who have been inspired to find out more because of the Games.

The athletes could not have put such a strong team performance without the support of the coaching and back room staff. Head Coach Tony McAllister, Assistant Coaches and Ski Tech's Euan Bennet, Robbie Young and Mark Scorgie, Physio Paul Gould and Team Leader Andrew Lockerbie have provided superb support for the athletes in Sochi and brought the very best out of everyone.
There was also great support from all the family and supporters who had made their way out to Sochi to support the team - you could always tell when a British athlete was on course as the noise level in the stands went up ten fold and they were only beaten for noise levels by the home crowd!
The Team arrived back in the UK to a fantastic reception at Heathrow yesterday and, having spent the evening catching up with friends and family, were invited to Number 10 today to meet the Prime Minister - a great endorsement of what they have achieved.
ParalympicsGB meet David Cameron at No10 Downing Street today
The athletes will now take some time off to recover and also to fulfil&the numerous media engagements they all have before reconvening in April for a post-Games debrief. Before then, the Development Squad athletes will be in action a the Austrian Nationals in early April - this will be the chance to see how the next generation are progressing on the road to Pyeongchang in 2018.
We are incredibly grateful for all the messages of support that the Team got during the Games and hope that their performances have inspired and impressed you. We are now in the process of looking for partners and sponsors to help us build on the successes of the last few weeks and take Great Britain onto even greater success over the next 4 years. If you would like to be part of this journey and help or support us either financially or with equipment or other services then please get in contact with us&- we would love to hear from you.
Why you should help?
Can you imagine the feeling of ski racing with missing limbs, paralysis or visual impairment reaching speeds of over 50mph? This is the daily pursuit of our highly motivated athletes, striving to race against the top alpine ski racers from around the world.
Our team &trains all year-round to sustain their world-class level and get ready for Sochi 2014, and also has to raise funding to make sure they get the best training possible that gets them podium places.
Your help is very much needed to ensure we are on the podium in Sochi!
