We know, too, that if the population (人口) of the world continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough food.
What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, we will easily get more food. Land that is used to grow cropscan feed five times more people that land where animals are kept.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.

Often, this waste produced by major industries and people is harmful to both natureand human life.&&&& One of the main causes of the large amount of dangerous waste is that people do not realizehow large a problem it is. Because it can be simply removed and sent to a landfill(废渣填埋场),the problem is often believed to end there. In addition, industries have often shown an unwillingnessto find ways to deal with dangerous waste because of the related expenses. Many industries andgovernments build simple landfills to store waste, and often just pour waste chemicals into nearbybodies of water. Often, chemicals used for industrial production cause dangerous forms of waste. The amount of these chemicals has increased greatly in the past, but it is often difficult and expensiveto get rid of these chemicals or to store them in a way safe to human life and the environment.&&&& Every year, major health problems result from dangerous waste. Sadly, it is often only aftersomeone has died or become seriously ill that governments will take measures to reduce levels ofharmful waste.&&&& Some governments have realized how serious the dangerous waste problem is and are now tryingto settle this problem. They are also trying to limit the amount of waste industries are allowed toproduce.&&&& Not only governments but ordinary people as well must work together to solve the problem. They can choose not to buy those products which require the production of dangerous waste, andproduce less harmful waste themselves. Many scientists think that waste production can be cut. Thewaste can be reduced by at least one third using existing technologies and methods.1. What would be the best title for the text ?A. How to store harmful waste.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&D. How to cut down the related costs.4. What can be inferred from the passage?A. The polluting industries are not allowed to sell their products.B. Present technologies have settled the harmful waste products.C. Everyone should obey the government rules for the problem.D. To solve the problem requires the efforts of the whole society.

Also scientists who were doing research into the health of workers sometimesproduced information which governments could not ignore. At such times, there were inquiries into thecauses of the disaster or the problems. New safety rules were often introduced as a resulhowever, the new rules came too late to protect the people who had died or become seriously ill.&&& &Today many governments have special departments which protect customers and workers. In 1752, three years after two Scotsmen, Alexander Wilson and Thomas Melville, fastened thermometers to kites to record the temperature of clouds, Benjamin Franklin made his famous experiment with a kite, a string, and a key.Franklin hoped to show that nature’s tremendous displays of electricity in lightning were the same thing as the feeble electric sparks scientists of the day were producing in their laboratories. He built a square kite to which he attached an iron wire.He flew the kite with a hemp string(麻线), and near the base of the string he tied a large brass key.The kite rose into a dark thundercloud, where the iron wire picked up electrical charges.Franklin noticed that the strands of the string(绳串)were beginning to stand up with electricity. As rain wet the string, it conducted more electricity.Standing in the shelter of a shed, Franklin cautiously reached out his finger to touch the brass key.A series of sparks jumped from the key to his finger. He thus proved that lightning and electricity are the same.We now know that this experiment was a dangerous one, for Franklin might have been killed by a bolt of lighting.
The best title for this passage is ________.
The Discover of Electricity
The kite and Science
Franklin’s Experiment with Lightning
Franklin, a Great Scientist
According to the passage, Benjamin Franklin ________.
