Some people believe that economic development should never be at the cost of the environment.They think the present serious environmental problems are largely caused by rapid?economic development.For example,land resources are shrinking because of the industrial development and the expansion of cities.Deserts are spreading because of over grazing,poor fanning,tree cutting,and strip mining.Our air and water supplies are being polluted by poisonous gassesand waste products.It is important,therefore,that we should take another look at the way in which our industries and cities are developing.However,other people think it unnecessary to consider environmental problems now and our first priority should always be given to economic development.They believe that environmental problems are inevitable and unavoidable in the process of economic development.They are only the by products of economic development,which can be dealt with later when we have the time and money.I think the second idea is completelywrong.Our ultimate aim in economic development is to provide a comfortable and happy life for our people.What is the point of economic development if we achieve it at the cost of our environment?There has been much evidence to prove that a balance between the two helps more rapid and continuous development.

When we told the relationship between economic development and
the environment, many people think it unnecessary to consider
environmental problems now and our first priority should always be
given to economic development. However, some people believe that
economic development should never be at the cost of the
environment. I think that the second idea is completely wrong
especially in China. Our ultimate aim in economic development is to
provide a comfortable and happy life for our people. What is the
point of economic development if we achieve it at the cost of our
environment? There has been much evidence to prove that a balance
between the two helps more rapid and continuous development.
First of all, Economic growth is so rapid that needs too many
however this may lead to destroy the balance of nature.
As the main aim of economic development is to pursue profits, this
may lead to many serious problems. Many people think that the
present serious environmental problems are largely caused by
rapid& economic development. “For example, land
resources are shrinking because of the industrial development and
the expansion of cities. Deserts are spreading because of over
grazing, poor fanning, tree cutting, and strip mining. Our air and
water supplies are being polluted by poisonous gasses and waste
products. It is important, therefore, that we should take another
look at the way in which our industries and cities are

With the rapidly development of economic globalization, both
developed countries and developing countries are facing the
problems among population, resources, environment and economic
development. Resource waste, environment ignorant, geographical
advantage relied by industry structure and extensive management
ideas can not be avoided in the developing process of most
countries.” In China, the government pays much attention to
economic development and GDP increasing, ignorant the environmental
protection, so people's living conditions is deteriorated
sharply.”(Ccmice.org) such as: The holiday economy have been used
to development the economy and the increase is rapid. But rapid
economic growth also can be lead to an overextension of resources
and lead to a serious problem. “The more economic growth the more
resources needed. China's economy has grown tenfold since 1978, and
the focus on development over the environment has led to widespread
environmental degradation.”(Carin Zissis) Many factories discharge
enormous amounts of harmful chemicals into air and rivers every
day. To kill insects, farmers use a large amount of insecticides to
have a bumper crop harvest. As a result, they pollute the air,
water and land. “ Ironically given that it is China's bullish
economic growth that is fueling such high levels of pollution, that
same pollution is proving increasingly detrimental to the country's
economic well being, with the China's economy losing an estimated
$200 billion annually due to the effects of pollution and global
warming, almost 10 percent of its GDP.” ( Paul Sussman)
Secondly, other people believe that environmental problems are
inevitable and unavoidable in the process of economic development.
The country's growing economic prosperity and rapid development
mean increasing urbanization, consumerism, and pollution. They are
only the by products of economic development, which can be dealt
with later when we have the time and money. “The familiar story of
China's economic boom keeps headline writers busy with gross
domestic product (GDP) growth hitting 10.7 percent last year.”
(Carin Zissis) Its booming economy, however, has brought a
concurrent environmental crisis. “Sixteen of the world's twenty
most polluted cities are in China. Beijing's pledge to host a
“Green Olympics” in the summer of 2008 signals the country's
willingness to address its environmental problems. But with less
than two years until the summer games, the country does not look
likely to meet its environmental goals.” (Carin Zissis) If we want
to keep the development of country, we have to do something to
change this situation.
Now the problem of development vs. environment is in the
limelight. Nowhere is the clash more visible than in China, where
the world’s largest population faces pollution, deforestation and
acid rain on a large scale. So the relationship between the
economic development and environment may be ambivalent. “Aside
from economic concerns over the cost of environmental degradation,
the government recognizes that environment-related social unrest
threatens central authority.”(Carin Zissis) In short, when we make
the economic development and environment balance, we will have a
however, if we continue neglect the environment
problem when we make the

development in the 1980s has been increased pollution. “Although
China has passed environmental legislation and has participated in
some international anti-pollution conventions, pollution will be a

Everyone of us in China have been know this including, government,
company and people. “Environmental awareness has certainly
increased within China, with over 2,000 environmental NGOs
operating around the country, while the Chinese government is
actively monitoring pollution levels at some 300,000
factories.”(Paul Sussman) We can deal well with the relationship
between economic development and the environment.
We must control the rapid growth of economy to adapt to
in addition we should not waste resources and grow
more trees. “Up to now, China has promulgated seven environment
protection laws and over 120 regulations to ensure the better life
for the world's largest population of 1.3 billion and the
sustainable development, China also concluded or acceded to over 30
international environmental pacts and formulated over 400
environmental standards.” (People’s on line) The environment laws
and regulations cover a wide range of fields, including atmosphere
pollution, water pollution, solid waste, noise pollution and
industrial pollution. Increasing the value of a company is not only
found in the profits but also in environment. Fortunately, more and
more people have realized this situation and the government begins
to work out this problem. When we know how to deal with the
relationship between economic development and environment, we will
have a good economic development and beautiful environment.
