Helloeverybody, good morning/afternoon, I am XXX ,from XXX（学院、班级）. Today I am very glad to have the chanceto stand there making the presentation about a great Chinese artist——Leslie Cheung.
I believe you all have seen a film directed byChen Kaige named “Farewell, My Concubine” yet. Known as the only one Chinesefilm that won the highest award of the International Film Festival in Cannes, Francein 1993 called “Palme d‘Or Award（金棕榈大奖）”, it has occupied the first place of Chinese movielist for many years. In addition, the film also won the FIPRESCI Award（国际影评人联盟大奖）, the Golden Globe Award for Best ForeignLanguage Film and so on.
Thefilm “Farewell My Concubine ”, which is adapted from the Hong Kong woman writerLilian Lee‘s novel of the same name, tells a story about two Beijing Operaactors’ sorrows and joys of life during more than half a century of Chinesehistory. This work had also screened in a number of countries and regionsworldwide. There is no doubt that "Farewell My Concubine” is a world-classmasterpiece. Cheng Dieyi, the role played by Leslie Cheung left deep impressionto the audience because of his loyal but desperate love and heartbreaking eyes.In no case can we ignore the importance of Leslie Cheung's superb performancein devotion to winning the prizes.
Another movie I bet you have watched is “AChinese Ghost Story”, that is “倩女幽魂” in Chinese language. The film tells a story about a poignant love betweena scholar who named Ning Caichen（played by Leslie Cheung）and a ghost who is called Nie Xiaoqian（played by Wang Zuxian）.At the beginning of the film,Ning Caichenran into a temple to shelter from the heavy rain,yet he was attracted by NieXiaoqian's wonderful sounds.Soon they fell into love.However,Nie Xiaoqian wascontrolled by a hamadryad. Swordsman Yan Chixia helped Ning Caichen to fightagainst the hamadryad. Finally Nie Xiaoqian reincarnates after having gonethrough thick and thin.
Personally, I like “Days of Being Wild” and “HappyTogether” most.In the former story, thedirector Wong Kar-wai chose 1960's Hong Kong as the background to alludepeople's tired soul in 1990's.It is a mirror which reflects Hong Kong youngpeople's inner world and lives of that era faithfully. Leslie Cheung had beensucceeding in shaping the image of an aloof and rebellious man Xuzai in thismovie. His wonderful
performance madehim the best actor in the tenth Hong Kong Film Awards.
In “Happy Together”, Li Yaohui and He Baorongis a pair of gay couple. One day they comes to Buenos Aires, trying to findtheir passion which had been disappeared long ago. However, Li Yaohui is soboring in the eyes of He Baorong that he decides to leave and find newpartners. Li Yaohui loves He Baorong from his deep soul, yet He Baorongdislikes the world just two of them. Eventually Li Yaohui understands thatthere is no possibility for them to get together again, so he leaves BuenosAires.
“HappyTogether” is absolutely the most outstanding one of all Wong Kar-wai‘s workstechnically. All the shooting techniques are just right. It has been the firsttime that the swagger slow motion is so close to the theme of a film itself.Gay theme is not the focus of the film，and such abold attempt is only to make a more lonely atmosphere.
There are other Leslie Cheung’srepresentative works such as “Rouge”、 “Once AThief”、 “Ashes of Time” 、 “He is aWoman, She is a Man” and so on, but considered the time, we are not going tointroduce them, you can download these online.

Leslie Cheung took part in the Asian AmateurSinger Contest organized by the Asia Television Limited (ATV) in 1977,which opened a door for him to be asinger. He won second place in this competition. His previous albums were notpopular at first, however the song “The Wind Continue To Blow” made his careerbegan to take off in 1983, moreover a song of extraordinary significance named"Monica" which was born in 1984 had completely changed his fate,since then he became the leading superstar. When the Hong Kong film "ABetter Tomorrow" released in South Korea, Leslie quickly became verypopular in South Korea. He was the most popular foreign star that time, hissongs resounded through the streets of South Korea. In 1987, Leslie's Mandarinalbum "爱慕" sold over two hundred thousand in South Korea. In1989, his Cantonese album "The Greatest Hits of Leslie Cheung" soldover three hundred thousand, creating a Mandarin album sales record in Korea, thenhe broke his record by the new album “宠爱” with a newsales miracle of over four hundred and fifty thousand in 1995.
Apart from magnetic voice, Leslie also hasamazing music creative talent. He wrote the tune for "沉默是金" 、"寂寞夜晚（To You）" 、"风再起时"、“红”、"红颜白发"、“极爱自己” and so on.

In the most difficult time, Daffy lent several monthssalaries to Leslie，while hedidn’t tell Leslie that he only ate bread and water during that time.
They spent the best time of life in thosedays. Leslie didn‘t lack a home to provide him with love and warm. He held thefarewell concert in 1989 and moved to Canada with his lover. Every morning whenwaked up, the couple watched the distant mountains and enjoyed Vancouvercoffee. There was a deer called “Bambi” by Leslie, which came to their gardenevery day to eat the flowers. Leslie’s friends persuaded him to come back toHong Kong to act in films. He promised, and then there was “Days of BeingWild”.
