In some cases (not always !) this can lead to a higher energy yield from solar module. Such controllers also charge batteries with constant current and not with interrupted currents like Shunt and Serial controllers. On the other hand DC-DC converters have significantly lower charging efficiency due to a lot of power handling parts including storage throttle causing energy losses. This makes such controllers much more expensive than Shunt- or Serial controllers. High switching frequencies can lead to low EMC performance. Often the advantage of MPP tracking leading to more available power is again compensated or overcompensated by the higher charging losses within the controller.
