A study on financing methods and solutions for the SMEs in Shanxi ProvinceAbstract
In Shanxi Province, there are 88,000 small and medium sized enterprises and 800,000 private own businesses. They cover more than 99% of the province’s businesses, employing 5.8 million workers. These businesses contribute 50% to the province’s GDP, 40% to the local fiscal revenue, 60% to export shipment value, 40% to Shanxi’s employment, 80% to new jobs in urban and rural areas and 50% to the residents’ income. However, these SMEs’ further growth has been gravely handicapped by development bottle-neck resulted from difficulties in financing.
In this paper, we will discuss this issue from the following perspectives: First, we will explain the concept of small and medium sized enterprises and that of the financing of SMEs, thus laying a foundation to further study. Then, we will try to find out the root cause for the financing difficulties of SMEs based on the analysis of SMEs’ development and their financing conditions. Next, we’ll conduct a detailed analysis on factors influencing the financing of Shanxi’s SMEs on the bedrock of Shanxi’s economic characters and investment environment. Lastly, based on previous analysis, we will provide solutions for enterprises, financial institutes and the government respectively. The feature of the study in this paper is that it incorporates as much practice as possible with theory. Most papers on SME financing, home and abroad, prefer theoretical analysis in economics from a macro perspective. But in practice, theoretical analysis can do little due to different economic characters of various regions and specific conditions in different enterprises.
